Just a quick update on the rear bars. The wheel carriers are done and I've posted pics on the thread below

Want to do this to my 80, Cut quaters and include the towbar in the chassis as well as tube bar.

Did anyone go through with this and can post some pics.

Sorry i didnt, but if you can imagine the rear behind the wheel arch being no more than 4 inches long before the steelwork heads up (10 inches missing from the body) of the rear end and shorter windows...then you have it ...

there would be some effort involved as there is a sub tank, body mounts and rear chassis bar, all surmountable, but yeah value?

Not talking about cutting the whole back of the car, just the bottom of the quaters up level with the rear tail gate. That way I could get some bar work tucked up there nicely and heaps improve departure angle.
Also incorporate towbar in rear chassis bar.

even that would involve seriously re-working that lower rear body mount.. I have considered it and if you re-did that rear mount it would be a simple enough procedure...

You can also remove like 8" of the rear of the chassis for similar effort...

Have had a look and havent been able to find what I was thinking of. may have been another site

heres a couple of pics I copied of a rear bar fitted to a cruiser with the rear cross member removed and I think the ends of chassis rails were cut shorter(not sure of this) to improve departure angle

quarters werent cut on this one.

The fish, has your 80 got a body lift?

80 deliriouse, Hard to work out what has been done in the photo's you posted. Looks as though his rear tank has been taken out. Also can't work out what he did with the rear body mounts.
Do you have any more details?

Hey burnsy

From memory (which can be sketchy) Im pretty sure the rig in the pics just had the rear chassis crossmember cut out, and I think the chassis rails shortened a little. the rear bodymounts werent changed. The rear bar was made incorperating a towbar and was bolted to the chassis using standard towbar bolt holes.
the rear quarters werent touched. the sides and rear of the bar are angled in a lot at the bottom to improve departure angles

this bar was a commercial made, pre-cut weld up kit available in US

I havent been able to find the link to it

This is a US lexus, Im sure US spec landcruisers werent available with the rear subtank.

I've got 5" lift suspension in the 80.

Thanks Sniper. We were pretty happy with the finished product seen we only had our own ideas to run with and hadn't seen rear bars on 80's done in the same way.

dont have a direct link to the thread and have searched in the last couple of days coz I was thinking of doing similar.

I originally searched in toyota landcruiser section for " bar work" or "rear bar" I reckon the seppo's have some great ideas and go all out on some of this stuff.
