it could be something as simple as a detent spring yes?

thought the syncro was just get it in gear, for speds that cant rev match, not to keep it in gear?

no it will help hold it in gear. mine wont drop out if your accelerating but sometimes it will slip out while coasting down a hill. bigger problem for me is the grinding into 5th when hot! now thats a nightmare at times.....

but thats because the gearset is under load, not the syncro.

under decel you will also find it hard to get out of gear

but theres the inbetween point (usually the point diffs whine at) where there is little load on the gearset and they freely slide out.

the question has to be asked to the original poster, does it just come out, or is it on heavily rutted or bumpy ground, and do you keep your hand on the stick usually?

i ahve a bad habit of leaning on the gearstick, and when 4wding, (im usually in low range second, so its alright if i pull back on it) if im in first, i ahve this bad habit of jerking it out of gear because i forget what im trying to brace myself to is the gearstick, not a handle.

just wondering if something similar is happening unconsciously in this case too?
