bolt on shock mounts

thinking about shock mount and options and know about issues with welding chassis and all that and would like to know ppls thoughts about u-bolted shock mounts around the chassis? the amount of force applied through shocks being a fair amount but nothing compared to the spring hangers I feel would cope with properly fitted u-bolts....The only issue I see is movement of the mount through loose nuts but with nylocs and even locktite this shouldn't be an issue.

My zook build is looking to be on target to be on the road by this friday. A few minor cosmetic things will take place over the next month but as long as i get to wheel next weekend i'm happy

any thoughts?

Shock mounts can be welded to the chassis but it needs to be done properly , if they can't flex on the chassis they won't fatigue , every body who has modded a truck seriously has welded the chassis rails , chopped cut and shut them , if done correctly you won't have a problem , Cheers Paul.

THanks Paul...yeah stuff like welding chassis rails is beyond my level of skill and and prob bigcams who is helping me out but Urbanredneck once hes done fixing his rangy AGAIN has the skill so i might let him have a crack...

I would be concerned about the U bolt idea. It could be done but getting a snug enough fit without it walking about or crushing the chassis will be a challenge.

As Sierras chassis is A) very thin and B) a closed box, it's quite hard to work with without welding - bolted mounts need a crush sleeve to work which involved welding and a bunch of alignment issues.

If you mount on two planes (top and side) and use doubling plates welding won't be a problem.
