Opinions on 3 core radiators-Injector issue?
My GQ (turbo diesel) has been running a bit hot of late. Not near overheating but often over half and going up to 3/4 on a long up hill.
Viscous hub has been replaced and radiator has been cleaned and have a new thermostat in it. EGT's are not too high.
So now I'm looking at putting a 3 core radiator in.
Who has them and what are they're thoughts on them?
Any issues?
Johnno.

No, I've always had spot lights on the front. I've changed from my Ralley 4000's to some new HID's that I'm selling but they are the same size.Hoonz wrote:have u added some big spotlights on the front recently?
This I don't know. They said it was 10% blocked internally and fixed a small leak in the filler neck.Hoonz wrote:did they do a c02 test on the radiator?
As the vehicle is making more power than Std. A bigger rad. is probably not a bad thing. Just want to make sure I don't spend money on one and still have an issue.

I'm using a GQ 3 core with my tuboed V8 so I would think it will keep yours cool. It does sound strange that the standrd isn't working. I know of a lot of TD42 turbo's using standard rad with good succecc.
Do you know what actual temps you are running? Nissan gauges are pretty crap so I'd check that before spending big money on new rad, that you may not need.

Don't know actual temps. I have a VDO temp gauge that is not wired in yet. I'll look into doing this in the next week. Problem is I'm running out of time to get it sorted before Christmas.nzdarin wrote: Do you know what actual temps you are running? I'm sure the old girl could do with a good dyno tune and maybe injectors.

So the std radiator should keep up and there could be something else not right...nastytroll wrote:my ute had std rad for years running 17psi n modded fuel pump only put 3 core in cos it wasnt much more expensive n the std one was corroded n top strap let go,
I have the same brand 3 core in 3 different gq's with td42's, 2 are turboed 1 is currently N/A all run at 1/4 on temp gauge.
What temperatures should it be running at?nzdarin wrote:Do you know what actual temps you are running?

Every place i tried said three core are no longer made because the showd doesn't fit properly, They said it only comes in two core which they reckon is high flow and does a better job than the 3 core. Any way I bought one and put it front of my 5L. It has twin AU thermo's, only seen it get to 90 degree( mechanical guage) and that's in boggy sand giving it every thing its got.Payed $400
my girls patrol had heating issues n it was shagged injectors n pump, 3 core just made it take longer to get hot, I doubt that the 3 cores would be discontinued most proberly the shop didnt have any, bought 3 3 cores for $457 each n shoud bolts straight on.

I just didn't go to one shop, every rad shop said the same thing, Maybe it's just over here , believe me i wanted a 3 core. 2 core does the job 4 menastytroll wrote:my girls patrol had heating issues n it was shagged injectors n pump, 3 core just made it take longer to get hot, I doubt that the 3 cores would be discontinued most proberly the shop didnt have any, bought 3 3 cores for $457 each n shoud bolts straight on.

Have been ringing around and some have suggested getting the valves done and the injectors. Injectors (I think) were done when the turbo was done around 80,000kms ago (Bogged may be able to confirm?). if this is the case they're not far needing to be done as well.
AG Diesel say the pumps need a rebuild at about 250,000 kms.
NFI wether this has ever been done to this vehicle.
They have change over, rebuilt pumps for $950.00 (Std Nissan specs)
Injectors $75.00 each
Dyno $100.00
Labour $550.00
$2090.00 all up. Add $550.00 if fuel compensator gets built onto the pump.
A lot of money, but if this will solve it, at least the vehicle will be running great.

Fuelpump and Injectors done when turbo was fitted - but injectors and pumps apparently can be screwd by 1-2 tanks of bad fuel... Not sure how true this is.GUJohnno wrote:Have been ringing around and some have suggested getting the valves done and the injectors. Any ideas on Kms?bogged wrote:all when turbo was fitted.. searching EO threads it was June/Oct 2002 it was fitted.
5 year x 20,000kms = 100,000kms perhaps
Time for injectors, but pump should be good.
I'll probably get injectors, valves and dyno tune done and see how I go from there.
Cheers,
Johnno.

Spoke to JPC today and might try to get it in with them.
They sugested getting the water jacket py-pass modification, extra oil to the fans viscous hub to make it come in earlier, injectors and dyno tune.
He's very confident that this will solve all the issues and run far better.

As stated by Weeman and Mitch, you have to drill and tap a 1/8 bspt hole into the head between the injector and glow plug for each pot, then connect them to a fuel injection rail or simular and connect into the coolant return - radiator hose.bogged wrote:wat exactly is it?GUJohnno wrote:$650.00DanielS wrote:How much did he quote for coolant by-pass??

have you checked your air box setup.
Are your running the standard setup is blocked?
Seeing that its fueled up more is the old setup to restrictive?

I am looking at getting a 4" S/S snorkel but it will have to wait a bit longer now.
Some would say though, that a turbo will pull all the air it needs and a larger intake wont make much difference.... (Ask Michael at work about it - I'm not convinced though)
