GQ owners with 4.3, 4.6's with 33s

Post by bogged »

Any chance you can tell me the speeds you are doing at say 2000 and 3000 rpm, trying to see what difference there is between them.

and what RPM you are doing at 110kph....

thanks

Divide the value you have now by the ratio you have now. Then muliply it by 4.3 or 4.6.
you don't need anyone else's figures at all.

but would also be interested in hearin'...

Bogged is only good at cut 'n paste, not a calculator!

Seriously, the maths will give you a correct figure.

Also depends what vehicle you have. Some speedos are calibrated differently due the tyres they were set up for. Mavericks with 3.9 and small 16 skinnies from the factory will be different to the Patrols with 4.1s and split rims, the utes with 4.3s and 31s.

My Mav has 4.1s, 33s and my maths led me to the figure of 12% correction, ie I do 88km/hr to keep at the speed limit, oil changes at an actual 4,600 km (5000km on the dash). RPM is about 2150 at actual 100km/hr.

12% is the correction factor for me if I wanted to return to standard factory gearing (for a 33 inch tyre) , to acheive this I would put in the 4.3 R & P

18% correction for to use 35s, the 4.6 R & P.

Also didnt know if you were urinating in my ear ;)

Kewl.

Just deciding which way to go, Im not going to go with 35's, so tryign to figure out if 4.6 will under gear it with 33's.

The car came with the 31x10.5x15 "WIDE WHEEL PACK"...

Why are you not going 35s in the future?

Assuming you have the 4.2 (petrol or diesel) 4.6s will under gear the vehicle for 33s. If you tow a trailer (no turbo) or load up the rig, you may get sick of the speeds and gear changes of 33s with 4.1s. 4.3s will be the perfect match for 33s, returning power and fuel economy to factory/original specs.

At the moment it is almost undriveable at 60ks it is inbetween gears LOTS.. Overdrive and below. Pisses me off.

Know that if it comes with 4.1 and 31's then
31 - 4.1
33 - 4.3
35 - 4.6

Just dont want to go the other way too much.. My car seems to suffer from it more the gearing thing than others for some reason.

As your post above says 33s 4.3s, this keeps gearing standard.
4.6 will add about 250 rpm at 110ks

Turbo diesel should run with 33s and 4.1s OK.

I reckon I could almost live with having an extra 250rpm (NA td42). Would this increase fuel usage or would it just rev more, less load, so same fuel use????

As I currently have a SWB GQ naTD42 with 33's and thinking about changing diff gears (cheaper than the long list of stuff to turbo it).

Also will be having 34 jt2's as play tire.

Go the 4.6 Its worth it unless your going Desert Tripping where fuel is more critical....

Some guys up here report improved fuel economy with the matched gear ratio/large tyre combo ie 33's + 4.3, 35s + 4.6 etc, as the motor is running closer to the original engineers specs of revs for distance travelled.

bruce you are also running an TD42T auto so this may well have more to do with it than the diff ratios. the torque converter might be an other option to look at.

as you know i am running a TD4$T and i find the the 4.6's have over geared it, and would like to go back a bit to 4.3's.

but i sit at ~ 2600 RPM @ 110 with 35's
