me and my old man were looking at going halves in a rough older 4wd, to tow the boat and find some surf on some beaches, and there happens to be a bj73 up the street.
$6k, 300000km,auto, 13bt, no rust, all barwork, duel battery setup, spotties etc usual setup. only thing we could notice driving it was the odd clunk on a corner, dunno the suspension setup, but worn bushes or something along those lines??? wouldnt be more than a few hundred?
found and empty block and the bloke took us for a spin through the sand, seemed to go pretty well, most use itll get offroad with us will be beaten tracks and beach runs for fishing and surfing.
Anything else we need to look for? is the price fair?
got a deisel fuel injection fitter, mechanic, and a few other trades in the family so any work will be cheap and easy. most of the stuff ive read on here gives them a good wrap so give us some feedback if you can on what you think.
cheers guys

BJ73- about to buy

That would be a BJ74 if it has a 13bt. I own one and I like it apart from the crap approach angle, and the price of parts. Odd things on it seem to cost a fair bit, but the engine is economical, yet powerful. I brought mine for a little bit more, but mine had front and rear lockers and stuff like that.
Look for rust/bog in the lower rear quarters, windscreen surround and the bottoms of the doors. If it's from a coastal area and/or seen a bit of the beach it'll be rusted to shit. My 75 has clunks/knocks in the steering - Sometimes it's just the leaves separating as the car rolls (esp. when wet), but mine is more than that. i suspect it could be the steering shaft uni joint.
