Massive Oil leak - Explosion more like it !

Post by Dan K »

I just towed my Disco MY03 home with the trusy old Rangie. Oil everywhere in the engine bay , and predominantly on the passenger side underneath. Probably started as slow leak by the trail i followed back on the dirt road , but as I drove up a hill it really dropped all its load and and shuddered to a stop. Checked the Engine Oil level and nothing left.

Anyone had this experience and know what it might be ? I cant see any offending tears / holes on first ( inexperienced ) inspection.

You don't specify whether its a Td5 or V8, but if its a Td5, the full flow oil filter lurks under the exhaust manifold on that side.... Could have spun off, they are a bugger for leaking.

oil leak

Post by Hally »

On the TDI models sometimes the oil line to the turbo would let go which would spray oil everywhere but I'm guessing since it's a 03 model which would be td5 do they use oil to cool the turbo's down in a td5? or is it water cooled
