RTC Steering Dampner are the worth it
hey all im lookin to get a new steering dampner i have 315/75 tires with a 5 inch lift is it worth getting a RTC steering dampner or just a normal one what difference do they make and are the RTC worth it

I got an RTC damper as part of a lift kit. My old non-RTC damper was 400K Km old so obviously totally shot.
Even so, I do like the RTC. It is a nice touch when reversing to be able to let go for the last foot or so, and have it straighten itself up, ready to move forward.
I'm not sure that I would pay extra actual coin for it though, it's just what came in the kit.

if it automaticaly wants to return to the straight ahead position, doesnt that mean that you have to use more effort to turn??? specificaly thinking a truck that already has heavy steering... i know that its easier to steer mine with no dampener at all... so would rtc be harder again?

If its the 160 dollar one they are useless. I removed a old as OME one and put the RTC one on and it got the shakes. I put the old OME one back one and no shakes. I got the RTC one rusting under my house. I wouldn't even sell it for fear it would end up chucked through my front window.

a rtc dampner is only usefull if you have other steering problems you are trying to mask............................ wich are better being off fixed.
they also increase the preload on your steering box etc. and do not steer as well when pushing hard ie less responce from the wheels.
just get a efs or ome one.... under 100 bucs and you will be well impressed

I previously had a RidePro which was shithouse imo.
I only just fitted my 4-WAY RTC dampner last week ($160)
I like it alot, it is alot easier steering when moveing, it's like assisted power steering.
But trying to turn on the spot seems alittle harder, although my power steer pump isn't crash hot either.
Certainly helps for 35's.
I say go for it, although there are better dampners out there.

Seconded. The point of an RTC damper is to hide the effects a lack of castor (from too much lift) gives. GQ owners who go over 2" lift will know all about not having castor and what it does to your handling, tyre wear and tracking!

I fitted RTC damper to my 80series with 4" lift to try and help fix up wandering steering. Only makes steering effort heavier and doesnt fix other problems. I recently sorted out caster and steering problems and removed the RTC spring from my damper. Steers great, as good as factory and without the spring the steering effort is heaps less.
