Shock Lengths

Just wondering if someone on here can give me a spec on shock lenghts to suit a 4" lift on a GU Ute, i have searched, and come up with not alot other than "bumpstop extension depending on shock length".

Anyone got some lying around that they care to measure?

i got a ute with 4".i have pro comp on the rear.really long ones a little longer than the ranchos that i killed.
Lifted the diff shock mount and use every mm of the shock.
the front has 1 pro comp and one rancho.but who cares what shocks are on there as you dont use much of the shock.

how long are they=dont know but have really good rear wheel travel for stock arms(not lenghened)and front works a tiny bit.

get long ones for the rear

It depends on your spring pack and how you have it set up. Just find a rock or something, take a shock off and flex it up and then measure. The shock lengths are pretty much the same between the leaf sprung Utes and the coil sprung wagons. It is mainly the shock configuration that is different, plus they are valved softer.

I am sure there is a good reason why Nissan have different set ups for the utes. It is probably so the apprentice fitting them up in the factory doesn't get them confused.

You would be looking at either 26.5" or 27.5" extended I would think.

Usually a 27.5" Extended shock for a 4" coil but then again it depends on which coils you run.

I use a 725mm shock with my long 4" Dobinson coils in the rear and they're about 70mm too short to allow full articulation before the coil comes loose.

At the moment, I cant just flex it up and check, as it is still running standard suspension. I am planning on lifting it 4" over my christmas break, and am looking at different shock options.

Are you running leafs or coils on the rear?
If it is coils then 27.5" is the go.
If you are running leafs, how do you plan to lift her 4"?

Its coil all round.

Do you think that 790mm extended, 486mm compressed will be too long for the front? I am looking at raining the shock tower slightly, and changing to pin mounts to try and get extra length.

For the rear i'm looking at 890mm ext, 537comp, but mounts are easier to relocate at the back.

Are these lengths overkill for a 4" spring?

What would normally go in the front is 24.5" 610mm to 370mm
What would normally go in the rear is 27.5" 710mm to 420mm

If you had a 5" lift you can squeeze the 29.5" 765mm to 405mm in the rear and 25.5" in the front.

If you run drop out cones in the rear then you could run 32" rears with a 4-5" lift 820mm to 480mm but no longer.

So if you move the rear mount by at least 3" and get drop out cones then it will work. Not a bad idea because you lose a fair bit of compressed travel.

For the front, well um yeah it is a bit of over kill.

You would have to rain the shock tower by 6 inches. We are talking flood. ;)

You can work out what you need from all the measurements I have given you.

To make the most of that front flex you need to get a pair of Superiors Super Flex radius arms.
