1HD-FTE into an 80...
Well, there was someone asking about this a while ago on here. Saw one being done last night. Looked like a real neat fit and the bloke doing it said at this stage it was pretty straight forward. Will find out more tonight about what box and other bits and pieces are being used....

was just reading the tech section here and noticed that apparently the 1hd-fte has flyby wire for accelerator and not a accelerator cable... any news on this yet?

1HDFTE is the same(essentially) engine just with electronic fuel pump, and fly by wire.
would of course be a perfect fit.
awww crap.... anyone know a way around this?

Fit pedal/sensor assembly from 100s? It's unlikely you'll be able to fit up some sort of mechanical system, especially using the std computer. Did both the 100 and 79 use the fly-by-wire?mud4b wrote:Shadow wrote:late 80 came with 1HDFTmidi73 wrote:I reckon it would be a neat fit. treebruiser wrote:Mud 4B, grab the pedal assembly, it will bolt in and you can use it. I'll be talking to the shop who are fitting it today and will gleam whatever I can from them. I'll have chat with the owner and see if I can pass you on his number...
will do bud. i really like bolt in...

all 1HDFTE are fly by wire, and will all use the same pedal assembly id imagine. That said, if you had to go buy one on its own, theyd probably charge an arm and a leg, but if your buying it with the engine you should be able to get it cheap.mud4b wrote:not sure on that one bud.
mine is coming from a 79 series so ill ask for the accelerator pedal also

Mark, dont know if you spoke to him yet but you'll need a sump, oil pickup and so on off an 80 factory turbo (hdft?). The 1hdfte one from the ute is different.
Apart from that dont know what bopx he used, keep forcetting to ask him but I guess it's the factory turbo box. Will be talking to him today and will ask.

will be keepin an eye on this thread -When my 1Hz runs out of pull want to put one of these into my HZJ 105
Does any know the box & transfer numbers from a 79 series ute?
or would a factory 100series with 1HD-FTE be easier swap -----although the manual version are rare as hens teeth? just after a few opinions
cheers Chris

Chris, the guy who is doing thios swap has done a couple of 1HDFTE's into 105's.
The ute motor and puter is the way to go as they dont use the chipped key and you dont need to swap the dash over. He has also used the box out of the ute in the ones he has done but you will need the stick assembly as you need to mix and match some bits on the stubby lever. I think the box is the R151F?
Have a look here http://www.brian894x4.com/LC78main.html and you should be able to find all the specs and info on boxes and ratios you need.

R151F this is the box that my HZJ 105R runs .GXL 105 --so full time 4WD,these boxes are also in the td prado td hilux .The turboed 79 series runs the H150F box same as whats in the 80 series TD Biger stronger box!!!!!
well the engine is in and all hooked up as of yesterday (it had taken 1 day)
it is a very tight fit. but nearly everything from the 1hd-t swaps over if needed.
stripped the loom last night but will finish it today hopefully (still no workshop manual has turned up) but i can already see some parts i need missing from the loom. hoping to use the 1hd-t parts (relays, glow, ect)..
will be doing a full writeup on the swap with pics asap...

He would prefer not to have his details put up on the forum or he will spend more time on the phone than working on vehicles..........
He does exist and I have passed his details on to mud 4b.

Mark, you could reconnect the toaster element to the glow system, but the engine doesn't need it to start.mud4b wrote:

Remove the heater, remove the element (air restriction), tape up the wires and save the belt screeching load on the alternator.

im figuring your talking about the pre heater that comes off the turbo but before the egr?
i was talking glow plug relays/ ect.. wiring is sitting on the floor, stripped and ready to go, now i need the workshop manual to work out what wires are what (as in what they do, didnt come with instrument cluster or anything for that matter on the in dash wiring loom).. hopefully the workshop man will turn up tomorrow, if not im guessing it is like every other same brand of vehicle, colours are the same throughout?
cheers mark..

Yep. Sorry can't help with the 79 wiring.
it will be right, there is stuff all wires left once the loom has been stripped, way less than a stripped petrol loom, but being computerized it is really just like stripping a petrol loom so i found it easy.everything is marked, just need to know what they do now.
hope the workshop man turns up today...
