extended shackles

Post by keechox@autospeed.com »

Hi guys,
excuse my ignorance, i am leaving behind my hilux and moving to smaller four wheel drives,

can someone please explain to me the advantages of extended shackles?
im planning on a springlift/body lift on a sierra flat tray and want to know if extended shackles with give me and more height, flex or tyre clearance

any advice?

Extended shackles are great..... for plowing trenches and wrecking your approach angle.

2" shackles will give 1" lift, effect steering via castor and reduce approach. Depending on whether you run longer springs or not they will also give a harsher ride due to the shackle being too vertical.

How some mods will benifit from shackles ie RUF without chassis extention, longer rear springs etc.

Work out what you need, actual length of spring eye to eye(around the curve) = chassis eye to eye + shackle eye to eye - 1". This way your shackle should never be horizontal.

this might sound weird, but why do u have to run the longer shackles at the front? why not lift the rear of the leaf? an then shifting the diff to suit?
