80 Series-Engine stalls when changing into 2ND gear :-(

Post by Matho »

What could cause my 80 Series to stall when it changes from 1st to 2nd. The RPM drops when it hits 2nd and then it powers up again. It only does this when I put the pedal to the metal.

Gday does it do this on either fuel or just gas? Sounds like a mixture problem.

I don't know much about autos but could it be a fault with the neutral/ reverse switch that prevents the engine starting in gear ?

Maybe the switch wire is shorting when changing gears.

Just a thought !

Hmm I hope it's not the tranny doing it because it virtually a new box :x It had abnormal wear in the overdrive bearing causing the valve body to change gear erratically. I was lucky because it was covered by warranty. Total cost to repair it was around $2400 :drinking:

Shouldn't be the neutral start switch unless you're moving the gear lever whilst driving.

When the last time it had a tune up or filter change?

The service was only done about 5 month ago. I took it to a LPG specialist and they only changed the oil. Maybe a tune up will fix this.
