Gearbox Selector Issues - Rocky

Post by Doc_Acos »

Having a little issue with my gearbox selectors.

The gearbox changes gears at a stand still excellently, but when driving I can generally change a couple of gears then I will change a gear, the gear stick will go completely into gear but not actually push the gears into mesh. Its not everytime and it is random on which gears and changes between go up through gears and down through gears.

Anyone ever heard of dropping a selector pin, etc on Rocky gearboxes?

Anybody had this problem before?

I have checked the lock nuts on the back of the transfer case that come loose sometimes and they are all good.

Only problem I had was when I pulled out the 5th gear selector bolt instead of the filler plug in the gearbox...

So are you saying it's not always on the same gears? And when you change it at a stand still do you know that the gear actually engages?

Yeah at a stand still all the gears engage fully and correctly, when this problem occurs while driving it is not common to one particular gear.

Does it happen on all gears or is it limited to some particular gears?

Are you sure the clutch is disengaging fully?
How much pedal distance from when the clutch engages to the end of pedal travel?

I had similar problems when my clutch was on its last legs

No it is random range of gears, it happens on all of the forward gears (never been moving forward while engaging reverse).

As for the clutch, its fine, rather low grab point and there is no gridning of the gears at all.

Hopefully, I will have the solution by the end of the weekend. Will keep you guys posted, meanwhile if there are any other suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated :)
