buying a 4runner diesel

iam in the process fo buying a 4runner 84-88 model and i have never drove a 4x4 but my brother has one and we go fishing a fair bit and tow a tinny every other weekend iam finding it hard to find information on these 4bs as iam trying to get a diesel i have a budget of $3500-$4000 if anyone can help me or to poiint me in the right direction much appreciated

why are you just a 4 runner you can get a hilux for about the same price and the ute you can thing in the back and parts are easy to get

Hi, plenty come up on ebay all the time.just be patient till you find one that suits you at the right price. try to get one in as origional condition as posible. paintwork hides rust and bigger tires put more strain on pretty much everything. just my opinion. anyways nearly everything on a 4runner is identical to hilux so parts are easy to get. wheelbase is shorter so there are tailshaft differences. mechanically ,suspension wise and the unboltable panels bar the tailgate are identical to hilux. hope that helps.

For the dates you are looking at you will get the 2.4 diesel which is the "2L" motor. They're a reliable motor if looked after (as applies to everything else) but gutless. Power figures for this motor are 54kW@4,000rpm and 156Nm@2,200rpm. I think this motor was the same as found in imported surfs however they had a turbo bolted on. You will not find a factory 4runner turboed though!

But Toyota stuck with this donk for yonks, starting with the L (2.2 ltr diesel), then boring the head out a bit to make the 2L, then more head bore to the 3L (2.8 ltr) and now to the 5L (3 ltr) which you will find in the recent model hiluxs.

If you can stretch the budget to $7K I will sell you my 1989 4runner 269,000 kms with the 2.8 ltr which runs bloody great, just had new injectors put in as a maintenance item only (no smoke or fuel economy issues) 4 door so easier for the young fella to get in and out (the years you are looking at I think only have two doors), front and rear auto lockers so wicked offroad, no rust or oil leaks.

And the Way the Older Petrol Hiluxs/4Runners are geared They Crawl basicly anywere with a wide set of boots on them, Great 4wd, Good Clearance.. Should suit What you need it for just fine..

Havnt has much Experience with the Deisels But cant be Much different i Suppose??

I picked my bus up for 7,800 With new Larger tyres on them..

Its done 180,000k's and is Realy Spotless...

Im sure You can Get somthing similar within ur Price range
