Head Porting 1Hdt

Post by cruiza80 »

Hi There, i am new to this forum. I have a 92 1hdt Vx Sahara, 6 months ago it threw number 1 rod through boths sides of the block and through the sump. I am a diesel Mechanic in Adelaide, in the process of building a new motor, have had several mods done including ceramic coated crowns and teflon skirts on the pistons. I have the updated 1hdt pistons now. Have also had balnced etc. Just recieved the head back from the port shop. Have had port and polish done and 3rd angle cut on valve seat. I was wondering anyones thoughts on the porting and has any one played around with that before.??

What are the "updated" pistons? It's be interesting to hear how it all goes when you get it finished.

I doubt you'll see any great results from port and polish on a forced induction engine, but it shouldn't hurt ;-)

I'm porting/polishing my turbo and exhaust manifold right now, I am also sending them off to a coating company when finished. They are going to caot the cold section with a thermal dispersant coating, and the hot section gets ceramic coating. The manifold gets a new type of 3 layer coating, it is a combination of ceramic coating and a new coating the company has developed. The new coating goes on the passages and makes them very smooth - like porting and polishing.

The 1HZ manifold has excessive amounts of casting crap left over, and the passages are rough and too thick in spots. Now that you have your manifold off take a look in there and you will easily see that you can remove quite a pit of material to help the flow. You can even clean up the cast turbo hot section to help the flow as well.

So, if you are coating all the other stuff - have your manifold and turbo coated as well, you might now see that big of a gain, but your engine willl run cooler and happier - lower engine/turbo temps and lower charge air temps.

Regards,

Louis

Thanks Guys, the updated pistons came out in the later model engine, not sure which year they started in but, on the top of the piston there is the chamber and on the edge of the chamber there is six small cut outs, i believe they are there to stop the injector spraying right on the fine edge of the chamber, causing hot spots which then causes the pistons to crack. very common in the earlier model 1hdt. I will see if i can post some pics.

I will look into the manifold but currently a mate and i are designing a custom intake and exhaust manifold with built in cooler. ARE seem to have had god results with the ones they have done on patrols.

Port the turbo, run a T4 front wheel and 17 psi thru an intercooler...that will get it going....
