GQ Snorkels

Post by chimpboy »

Hi,

The Airtec and Safari snorkels for the GQ both run the full length of the mudguard, entering the engine bay near the front of the car.

I think this sucks as it doesn't let you clean up the plumbing under the bonnet which takes up so much space.

Does anyone know of a snorkel that enters the engine bay just forward of the windscreen? Would an MQ snorkel do this?

Yes a mq one will fit but looks like crap in my opinion. If yours is a diesel what r u going to do about the fuel filter where it mounts? Also look at a factory one as they enter the gaurd before the wheel. I have a safari one on a petrol and have no problems with plumbing. Hope it helps

yes an mq snorkel is only about a foot long along the guard, but dosnt sit perfect on the guard, as it isnt moulded to suit the guard flare. but if nobody told you, i dont think many people would pick it.

The factory GU Snorkel can also be made to fit quite easily and enters in the spot you want.

So much space?? do you mean the precleaner? Piss it off and run pipe from the guard to the airbox.. Takes up no more room, where ever you put it, will take inner guard space up..

YMMV

Would pissing off the cyclone thing make any difference to performance? (worse)
Coz Im thinking of just running a bit of flexi tubing straight to the filter. Mines a TB42 on gas.

Cheers,

Rod

wait till tomorrow night and i will post a pick of mine. I pissed off the stupid precleaner thingy. Safari snorkel came into the gaurd. I used the piping of a late model commodore (looks good and is the right size too) Also get the rubber flexi joints as well. Use one flexi joint to come from the snokel in the inner guard and push it out to the inside of the engine bay. use the piece of pipe with the curve to go from the flexi joint and out into the bay & run parrallel to the gauard. U will need to cut a curve off to make a straight piece and join it with a flexijoint. Piss off the heater box and join the two square plastic ends inside the other (may require heating and sikaflex it together (never come apart now). The round end will go to the commodore pipe and clamp it (it is a neat fit over it) and then attach the remaining end to the air cleaner Looks great and factory- however they recommened that i dont have a snokel on gas as it does't like having the air rammed down its throat. Gas was apain in the arse and now the carby is set properly will electronic ignition with the electronic coil runs like a dream mmm but now chasing MUCH more power - as you do!

===============================================

Gas is not a problem with snorkels, they adj to the airpressure.
Some gas regs need to have the atmospheric side of diaphram plumbed thru the breather to the snorkel inlet side of aircleaner so pressure of air adj gas . Easy :)

Thanks Bazzle - typical so called called EXPERT that knew little! I even got a second opinion at the time. Oh well, at the time I knew little about gas. I got sick of tuning it for dual fuel etc and took it off and now have it just set up for solid fuel only - better on the carby too i think.
