37" tyre options
37" tyre options
I'm trying to sort out some 37" tyres and wonder what people are using and their feedback. I'm particulary interested in wet mud/clay grip and sideways grip. I'm currently using 35x11.5 ET's. My truck is pretty light ie around 2000kgs and has alot of hp so that is also a factor. I'm in NZ so it also needs to be more aggressive than most n Oz would consider but I'm open to suggestions.
93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)

I would go the BFG krawlers awesome in the mud espacially the 37's as they are 12.5" wide. Or your other option is the maxxis trepador which i have been told is a 12.5 however looks much skinnier... which would suit the type of mud you drive in...
Boggers are average you wont be able to turn and the creeps no good for the sticky mud in nz...
I know when i was other for the kiwi in 05 kevy knott had the BFG in the 35" size and they got through alot of stuff the others didnt with out much hore power either...

I competed in the 05 Kiwi and was very un-impressed with the Krawler for NZ conditions! One hill in particular that I think everyone else drove, Kevvy had to winch it! That was a combintation off lack of power to weight (ie the truck being too heavy for NZ), and I think tyre pressure.weeman wrote:[

Ok, we own 34" trxus, 37" tsl boggers - cut, 37" maxxis 762 comp trepadores, 39" bfg red label comp crawlers, and have competed on just about everything else!! i agree the 35's weren't as good.. but the 37's work really well especially in the alpine challenge.
However a few people a trialling the trepadors and you will surprised allot of the top competitors will have them at the OBC next year.

i agree at speed on greasy hills they are just average, but when crawling they are ridicously good, in many comp situations we have been able to turn offcamber uphill waaaaaay easier than almost all other tyres. Over the years we have been lucky to have been given a variety of tyres to test in comps, some include BFG krawlers - blue (these are average at best, terrible in transitional terrain and offcamber approachs), MT Claws (not recomended for a comp car!!), Simexs ( a good mud terrain, not a COMP tyre) . . . .and heaps of others.
The Maxxis 762 treps IMO are very good tyre in the mud if you have HP (and you do!) and they are very good in all other situations (not excellant but definately one of the best ALLROUND) which makes them ideal as a comp tyre.

Would you expect to get more than just the outback challenge out of them? I've been told they are very fast wearing. i know for obc competitors its not a real issue but would they be a good buy for average joe.
