The 285/75-16 is a 33x11.5-16 though.

305x70x16 is indeed a 33 x 12.5

A 285 is NOT a 33.5, they are merely 32.8

A 290x75 is more like a 33.2 (jungle trekker)

so in QLD a 305x70x16 would be perfectly legal for road use?

Over 32" I do believe - which I reckon is illegal!

The formula is.......

width x aspect ratio x2 / 25.4 + rim diameter

275 x .75 = 206.25
x2 = 412.5
/ 25.4 = 16.240157
+ 16 = 32.240157

If they were standard issue LC I expect they would be 275/70R16 - a little over 31".

Each tyre size has a defined range of suitable rim widths. A tyre fitted to a rim outside that range is considered unroadworthy.

305/70 and 285/75 have the same diameter, unless you get really picky and go to the 100th degree and then the 285 is .02 inches bigger. In Qld the law states that you can't fit a tyre that is 15mm greater diameter than the largest factory optioned tyre. So yes a 33 inch tyre is illegal as its more than 50mm over the patrols largest tyre. Yet I have never heard of a cruiser or patrol being pinned for 33's during a RWC. Check out the Qld Transport site for Vehicle Modifications and it spells it out for you.

Personally I wouldn't worry too much about it, or you would see every 2nd Cruiser/Patrol off the road with a defect notice from the Qld Transport. By the way your Sidewayz, your Patrol and my Cruiser are almost identical. Factory rust and custom panels

it's 25mm larger but yes, still technically illegal. Largest original fitment is 32".

You're a better man than me. I just live with it. Might explain why my 80 looks like sh*t most of the time. But have owned it for 12 years and know the exact location of every love tap. Getting a teary eye. I think
I will go for a play
