Hey zook gurus,

Is there a visual way to tell the difference between the 1 & 1.3 ltr transfer cases???

I tried doing a google image search, but i got shit results.

not really.

between the NT 1.3 and 1ltr, best visual is both have a 4wd light and alsothe flanges are different .

1.0's have smaller flanges that 1.3.

Can't think of any other obvious way.

The Bible used to have a link to a worcester forum thread with photos of EVERY case (including canadian market with PTO's etc) but the link doesn't seem to be working.

Early SJ410 t-case has ball bearings in center shaft and casting is therefore different looking outside. Those are also missing 4wd light so shifter forks and their castings are shorter. Very 1st version of SJ410 t-cases had different frame mountings but they don't effect to casting.

PTO has also been in all Finland models because of tax reasons.

Jeez... a useful tax and we don't get it... :?

Be aware that there wer two 1.3NT t/c released in oz... one has much tougher case i believe... if my memory worked i could even tell you haow to tell em apart.

Failing that, drop by Suzuki Auto Spares (ex Suzisport) at Springwood... then Dave can explain to you so i don't have to remember yet.

my 1L transfer has the 4wd switch and the ball bearing on the centre shaft . you can not see the shaft from the out side. cheers ron

Yes you can see the differense in aluminiun casting, ball bearing cavities are much bigger than needle bearing + you can see needle bearing saft itself and its locking plate.

And yes, there is some odd versions of t-cases between years 1984 and 85 when there was model change. This at least in northern Europian versions.
I have one tcase where is also ball bearings and place for 4wd light switch. Only that switch hole isn't drilled, only place in casting. But it's very rare, even here in opposite side of earth :D

OK , visually ...

the earlier 1 litre transfer case the lay shaft was enclosed in the housing (up to 82?), the later 1 litre had the lay shaft with the bolt and locking plate.

For very quick identification of all transfer cases i use this method .... look at the flange and the pattern that the driveshaft that was bolted to it has left , a square pattern is 1 litre , Nt and Wt have a similar shape to each other , but the narrow track used 8x1.25 bolts and the wide track 10x1.25 bolts.
