Post by matto »

I currently have the motor out doing a conversion and while in the engine bay i noticed that i had a bit of rust inside the grill bit under the windscreen you cant see it from out side the car but it has potential to be a real problem in years to come. Just thought i would bring it up for people to check maybe nissan just done a crap paint job on my car!

Used to see this in many vehicles not just GU's. vehicles from costal areas are particularly bad for rust here - and its often structural too.

other places GU owners should clean and check regularly are inside the flares - series 1, 2 and 3 flares catch alot of crap and hold it next to the bodywork (bad). Also it seems around the rear doors, up the very top on the body seal - never seen this one but a few people have reported finding rust there. Front radiator support/crossmember and the bodymounts. Oh and the rear quarter panels, view this from underneath the vehicle.

Basically anywhere crap can get caught or paint chipped off from stones will be a prone rust spot for a vehicle thats seen a bit of beachwork and not cleaned down properly (or lives near the ocean).

You wouldn't believe how many pristiene looking late model LC100's, GU's and even NP Pajeros are running around brisbane with rust from not being washed properly after beachwork. I detailed cars while I was @ uni and saw alot.
