Converting Toyota Surf from Auto to Manual

Post by Aussie_4Runner »

G'day all,

Long time reader, first time poster.

Is anybody able to tell me what is involved with converting a 1994 Toyota Surf (KZN130) from an Automatic transmission to a manual transmission?

Firstly, is it possible? And if so, what sort of costs may be involved?

Is it as simply as buying a second hand manual gear box from a similar vahical and having it fitted to this one? I'd imagine that there would be alot more involved with it though.

Any help that someone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Clemmo.

Not easy at all, because it's not just a Hilux.

You will possibly need a different wiring, ECU, drive shafts, gear box mount, plus heaps of other stuff I cant think of.

It would be easier if you had the donor Surf same model as yours to get all the different bits. Without it, the job would be a nightmare.

ballpark figures quoted to convert a patrol from manual to auto - drive in/drive out with rebuilt gearbox ($4k) were round $8k. Doing most yourself will save thousands, but not fitting a rebuilt box? If it shit itself within a week you would be happy.
