Parabolic springs (Now talking about Trail gear suspension)

I found a company in western Aus that import or manafacture parabolic springs. I have heard of one bloke who has them on his lux that they r the beez neez for leaf springs.

I was thinkin of gettin some but just wanted to hear on everyone else opinion on the matter.

Also is there a better option for shackles and shocks to use with them instead on the standard shackles and 2" shocks.

i got em, and you should get em!!

i have them on the front of my leaf sprung GQ ute, they flex well, the "Coil like comfort" thing is a gimmick though. I have not used them in the rear because I have read that they need a fair bit of weight over them to work properly, ie. the engine.

I bought front springs for a 75s cruiser as this gave me better shackle angle, they are on a 45deg angle at ride height.

the company for any one interested is Westralia, they import parabolics from a company called APM. Westralia can manufacture conventional leaf springs but not parabolics. They are an excellent company to deal with, very helpful.

^^^^^^ Yeah he is right, if you drive hilux/runner/surf then locktup sells the springs you want, i've seen the trail gear springs they sell in action and they get good results.

what is the vehicle?

well i guess i,ll be differant i,ve got a set and i,m pulling em out hated them and mate had a set allreadys pulled both in hiluxs i bought the car with em in . I have changed the rears allready to emu IFS springs alot better ride and flex

Yeah i drive a hilux dualcab and i want springs with real good flex. I like crawlin around and over shit and all the other day runs steep hills and ruts. Also do a few high country trips a tear to like but if i cant carry the weight i'll put airbags in for the trips to carry the extra weight.

The main prob is the rear as always in a lux i have thought of coil conversion but it alot of money that can be spend else where for now.

This is what i have at mo and rear works with weight fronts r pretty much always the same

yeah if you want flex in the rear don't get parabolics... I have the ones you spoke of, APM. They were under the car when i bought it, and even with longer shocks and stuff they get to a point and don't stretch any further. I switched the fronts asap with a custom rear pack, flexes and rides better with stock 80 series shocks. Rears are still in, haven't got round to throwing them out yet. Was thinking IFS rears but not sure whether to go with the trail gear ones from locktup. Already have a-frame rear shocks, you should do this if you haven't already. Do a search or hit the bible in the toyota section for info on sspension, there's heaps of info around.

Yeah spoke to westralia springs and i ask them would i have to change break line do to there better advertised flex and they said no. So yeah they dont sound to me as having better travel.

So if i want better travel i will have to go a longer leaf pack possibley a rear ifs in front. I have also heard of this makin the ride of the vechicle alot worse and more unstable. Or is that just the downside of havin a better flexin vechicle

I have them on my 4runner and they give about 2" lift straight up
The travel of the spring is limited by the shockies and you should put longer hoses on or relocate the front hose bracket onto the side of the chassis rail pointing down this way you can use standard hoses

Trail gear classic front and rear, same line same place as above.

You are limited in the lux with the steering and the length of the springs, if you don't want to go cutting suspension mounts and doing the high steer, chuck some parabolics up front and use some IFS rears or a soft/med Old man pack on the back.

Fair enough parabolics might give you a 2" lift straight up, but it depends on whether you want to wheel your rig or look at it.

Yeah i have already moved the brake line bracket to the side as the 2 inch ironman pack i have with 4 inch shocks was stressin the line pretty bad.

With the trail gear stuff i noticed that it was for the older luxes.. Is there a difference between 80s luxes and 90s luxes in leaf size and placements.

mine is dd at the mom this comprises of all standard mounts and standard shackls, rear is in process of bein sorted.. just giving you an idea of what ya can get outa stock, im happy :D

Yeah i saw wot was included in the pack, but if it is worth the cost then i will do it. But i am tryin to worm out the best setup possible before i go ahead.
Now from wot i have seen so far trail gear offers a good flex, but is this only at crawling pace. If i was to be movin along abit or say punchin up a steep hill will i still bounce around real bad like of a basic 2" lift after market kit. Or will the suspension soke it up more resultin in alot smoother ride.
Or is coils the only option?

This truck has been running T-G 4" leafs front and rear for two years. And its been driven over every thing you can think of at speed. In the picures the tires are 37" MTRs. Now he runs 39" BFG Krawlers.

Jeez that is some impressive flex there. So really this trail gear suspension is gettin a far better talk up than any other suspension mod or upgrade for leaves....
If i order this gear where in melbourne would be the best place to get it fitted.

I have ordered and received the trail gear front and rear kits and cant wait to get it in. All going well itll be in by the end of the month if your still looking then I will be able to give you some feedback.
