install TD42 into mq Patrol
install TD42 into mq Patrol
can anyone tell me if it is cheap and easy to change from a SD33 to TD42.
I keep braking SD33's so i want more power and something with a bit of technology. i dont want v8 cause it just seems to be what everyone else is doing.
any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

assume its for an mq?
So the best cheapest and easiest way to put a td42 in an mq is to buy a gq td42
Can you see now why so many people go for the chev? its really a good thing for mq's cheaper than a td with more power.
An sd33 in good condition shouldn't blow up on you if you look after it, (good oil and don't cook it) with a turbo it could go as well as a td42 also BUT you could still probably do the chev for the same money.....
no gbox adaptors that im aware of so that'd mean gq box, then the rear diff out put would be in the middle as oppossed to offset(mq) suppose you could put a gq diff in it to fix that- at least the rear, and then the front track would be too narrow - gq diff or wheel spacers could then fix the front.can anyone tell me if it is cheap and easy to change from a SD33 to TD42

td42 aint got any more technology than an sd33 just a bit more capacity and therefore power, if you want technology go for the ZD30i want more power and something with a bit of technology

There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots
Re: install TD42 into mq Patrol
Do you think there might actually be a reason for that?ralphieboy wrote:i dont want v8 cause it just seems to be what everyone else is doing.
TD42's are a big POS. Why would you even bother? They are big and heavy and slow.
Re: install TD42 into mq Patrol
I agree, If you were to look at TD4.2 into a MQ I would be looking at a MQ shell on a GQ chassis.Turoa wrote: TD42's are a big POS. Why would you even bother? They are big and heavy and slow.
Heaps easier and coils.

No its not easy to change.
I am putting an TD42T (or a TB42 with turbo, still can't decide and this is the only part left to buy) into my MK. New engine, gq gearbox and T-Case aswell as gq diffs. It is going to be a very interesting exercise.

thanks for the replies everyone. but i still dont want to be another sheep with a v8 in a 4by and cant be bothered spending more time and money on such an old car that is why i want a cheap and easy way out but with a motor that will last. also got a big heavy fibreglass boat (needs towing). probably try to hunt down a 12v MK with a turbo diesel. if yous know ne 1 can you let me know please. might even consider selling it and spending time and money on me jackaroo. would not hesitate to drop a chev in that
1st engine dont know what the quality was dirving back from bribie island and it developed a knock the one time i was not giving it a flogging.
2nd engine got it of a mate and driving back from the gold coast, the radiator hose blew off. #1 piston has not fired since.
i still love me nissan but i think the motors i have had are just worn out.
