Custom or extra large size bucket seats???

Post by 80's_delirious »

Im after some suggestions for a extra large bucket seat for my 80series.

Before you all chuck in ya smart ass comments, Im not a barge ass :finger: :finger:

Im 6'6" and 110kg and have a bit of a bad back so I need a seat that suits someone tall. Pretty much any OEM seats Ive looked at are to short in the back and have lumbar support etc in the wrong spot.

I am after a good sports bucket seat, something that has good lumbar support and side bolstering on the back and seat. I find getting tossed about in a crap seat while wheeling farks my back up. (bad enough driving on road)

I was thinking of getting one custom made to suit my height. Anyone gone down this road and can give me some idea on cost and were you happy with the outcome?
Who does custom bucket seats?

Have started customizing a 100series bucket seat, but trimming the modified seat will be a shyte load of work, will need to be trimmed from scratch.
So Im thinking of other options again

Stratos seats custom made to suit what i wanted were $1500 with extra lambar support, wrap around style top and flat bottom.

Havent purchased yet as looking at long term goals of the truck but they were a nice seat.

Think there in smithfield ? You just go down there and talk to them.

We can customize your seat to suit your needs, hard to say how much as i would need to discuss exactly what you wanted first, advantage of using origional seats is no need to engineering cert'. Expect retrim of a seat to be around $770 plus modification. if you like email or call us after the 7th Jan happly to offer any advice needed.

I've gone through the same process for the same reason ie I'm 6'6" and 125kgs. I have Recaro buckets that came out in the high spec Isuzu Bighorns. I've had them recovered and they are very good seats. I do winch comps etc so need the support as well. I also have lower back issues at times so need support for that as well.

similar reaction I had when I went to Recaro that were on Paramatta road in my old ute... he quoted me close to $3000 for 2 seats, and was tryin to grab the keys to go fit them, I laughed and said ya dreaming..

I went to wrecker in Greenacre on the way home, and got 2x out of 2 door grey import for 300pr.. they had the side tings like recaros and more padding.. great score, but took hours of going thru their attick to find the second seat as I wanted the Pair.

Good brand name seats are all costly, but good.. you can get cheapys from autobarn for $400ea, but they have had a bad wrap on here before.

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but everyone really needs to recognise the difference between seats as an accessory and seats required due to a medical condition.

If you have a back condition, You NEED a seat to be fitted for your needs, or you risk making your condition worse, even if you spend money on a "good" seat. The only manufacturer I am aware of that will fit a seat to you is Recaro.

Sure, almost any aftermarket seat will be an improvement over a trashed stock seat, and some of the cheaper seats available from franchise auto shops like autobarn are improving, but like anything, you get what you pay for. I have seen some terribly shaped and built seats in stores.

Bogged - $1500 per seat is about right for a Recaro. If you'd spent the money, they would have been with you for many many years and many cars.

I have an SP-G Recaro in my road car. Yes, it cost me about $1400, for a non-reclinable, thinly padded shell race seat. It has been in two cars, I have put about 90,000km on it in just under three years. It's the best investment I have ever made in a car. I'm in the car for around three hours a day and the most demanding driving I do is at the beginning and end of each day. This seat replaced the "sports" seats in a cooper s, and the factroy seats in a STi WRX, and compared to the Recaro, they were both total garbage, especially the STi seat.

Ex JDM seats from a wrecker are good value... for a second hand seat designed for a 5'5", 65kg Japanese guy. If you have a medical condition, are unusually shaped, engage in competition, or put big hours in behind the wheel, spend some money on your seat, you won't regret it.

I;m not trying to flog recaro, but for the orthopedic market, there is no competition. My Suzuki has Sparco sprints in it, and for the money, they are great.

I've heard of people with back problems getting orthopedic seats through their private insurance - might be worth looking into if your in that position.
