Buying a swag...ADVICE NEEDED

You got that swag for a steal mate! I just checked the link and they
are now $409, but they have "20% more mesh" LOL.

I had a look at one of those Dune4x4 swags while walking past an
Anaconda place, they appear to be a Dune4x4 stockist.
They look pretty good for the price.
And they ain't 8oz anymore, it says on the box they are now 15oz
canvas which is just as good as alot of the pricer brands (X2 or X3 the $)
And they are on special too...very tempting indeed.

Got ALL the features including 3 poles (good quality), PVC base, full length
mesh, foot and head mesh/openings, and awnings. Got a 70mm high-
density foam mattress with cover too.
Packs up with a nice simple adjustable strap system.

Anyone got any wet-weather, or cold weather stories/experiences with
these dune4x4 outback swags??

Even if I bought a cheapie (this would be my first swag, so I wanna try
it out for a good period but not pay a fortune just yet). Couldn't I just
get some canvass waterproofing spray on it?

when you get one and its the same with all swags, pull the matress out of it then fill the bath up with water and let it soak for an hour then hang it out to dry, do it a couple of times and it swels the stiches and canvas and makes it more waterproof.

Dont do that. If you have to spray it, its no good.

You cant go past an "Allens Swag" ( Jim Allen and Son )They are at 682 South Rd Moorrabin (vic) Ph :(03)9555-3747 ( I have tried to find the link, but its playing up at tha moment ) These swags have a removable poly cover that "stops" water soaking through ( no matter how old the swag is ) Mine is over 20 years old and it has copped a "FLOGGING", but still works well. I am up for a new one though.
Honestly, Ive seen just about every swag on the market and nothing comes close to one of these !

Hey, Toyo Truck. I've got a Dune swag. No probs at all. I find it very comfortable. It is actually a 12oz canvas so its a bit lighter than the burke and wills range but still good for its price. I also work at anaconda so if you have'nt decided still feel free to come in and see me i can take you through the range and answer any questions you have.

I went into Anaconda at Aurburn the other day.
That place is fuggin HUGE!!!!
and its got so much cool stuff in there...spent about an hour in there!

But the wait is now over...
The folks actually found out I wanted a swag, and bought me a
Dune 4x4 Outback Swag for chrissy! So that saved me spending ANY
money on it. But yeah, thanks for everyone's advice. Thanks to this
thread, I knew exactly what sort to get and all that.

The Dune4x4 one looks the goods though. Its made of pretty heavy
canvass, its a grey colour, got awnings front and rear, top and front
entry, Full-screen mesh, foot mesh, 3-poles (that store in the swag),
70mm foam mattress with cover, Internal storage compartments and
it comes with a bag to store it all in. They are actually on sale now,
during the sales, for like $149, which is an absolute bargain.

I have had a quick kip in it, that was good, havn't slept out in the bush
yet, but I will do this soon.

Will let y'all know how it goes

I lived outa it for 12months workin on the cattle station! dont rember how much i paid but i think it was around the $250! its bout 3 years old now and still is awsome!!! BEst sleep i ever get is in it

go the darche swags they rock.

yeah, apparently when you get your new swag your supposed to hose it out a couple of times to swell the seams so that the canvs doesn't leak when it's exposed to the weather.

looking at upgrading from my single to a double swag, i'm going darche

I 2nd that, have had a Darche double for about 13 years now, havn't used it much in the last 7 years though as have young family now, but earlier in the piece used it all the time. Has hoops, mosquito net, breather flaps, matress, and rubber base, have slept through terrential rain where woken up dry to find everyone else packing up because they were all wet, got no sleep etc and were going home. You can sleep open, with hoops either open, mosquito net or fully enclosed, can peg down in storm mode to be completely water proof. I go the double for the extra room, bugger to cart as twice as big but you benefit it later when bed time, oh and if you happen to get lucky, there is room for 2.
