body lift on gu yay or nay

Post by matto »

I'm currently putting a gen 3 in a gu and i have come across a problem with the gq 4.2 gearbox not fitting in properly a small body lift is needed to stop it touching the floor but apparently this is an unengineerable mod is this the case or are people just speculating i only want it lifted 30mm
nissan 98 gu 5" lift 37 creepys, 80%reduction gears, front locker and a gen3 and no money.

the gbox is touching the floor so it will vibrate the car to bits if i leave it like it is and thats with the gbox cross member lowered

Can't you reshape floor a little? Would only effect tunnel or footwell wouldn't it? Footwell reshaping is often req'd for spinning out non-body lifted GQ's. Bell housing's a biatch where the starter motor bolts on.

the problem is where the gear levers go into the gbox its more toward the front of the car by about 100mm so the hole in the gearbox is covered slightly by the floor. i have cut a bit away from the floor but the highest part of the gear box is still touching it and thats with the gearbox lowered as low as it can go. I dont know how to attach photos or i would show you.

Give Joel at PGS a call, he seems to know his shit, and I think I read somewhere on here that he had done this before. But not sure on what gearbox he used.

You could hack away most of the floor here and replace with sheet steel, aluminium, whatever. Even cover with gearstick surround from a Ti model GU or GQ.

Or is it so far forward that gearstick will foul with dash? There may be some sort of gearbox spacer and extended shaft available???

its a marks adaptor kit and its not touching anything i cant bash the floor because where i need to bash or cut is where the dash is secured to the floor.
