Gooday Guys, I have a 2000 nissan patrol 4.2 turbo and would like to fit a winch to the front. I have a aluminium bull bar at the moment which i would like to keep. Is it possible to do some cut outs and fit say a cradle or brackets to the frame so i can keep the looks of the 4by the way it is. Any pics or comments would be great .
Thanks Gazza

Winches
a removeable winch would be the go.
It's certanly possible to do this.. with an alloy bar, you would have to make your frame attach to the chassis, possibly make a sub-frame that is hidden behind the alloy bar. that the winch cradle mounts to through the bar..
do you have air bags?? I think it would be an issue if you did.. you wouldn't be able to use the bull bar mounts for the subframe, you could possibly mount further back on the chassis and make sure the subframe/winch cradle, cant contact the bullbar. ie. have large holes through the bar that your connection system goes through.
i think either way, it would be best to have the winch cradle drop in through the top of the bar, to keep it easy to mount/unmount, as it could just drop in with two large pins (RHS or whatever) and would only need a smallish pin to secure it..
it can also then be used on the rear, as you can easily duplicate the mounting system on the rear bar

Re: Winches
I think TJM make a cradle for the GU, there are cradles out there, that allow you to keep the shiny toorak bars...
