Rear Wheel bearings
One of my rear wheel bearings is gone, i just brought a new set, has anyone got any tips for changing them, i have heard they can be a real pain in the arse, any help would be great, cheers

If you have a widetrack (which i seem to recall that you do?), i believe you basically have to cut the bearings off the axel - which is a pain obviously...

Hopefully soon, i just cut the old bearings off the axles so i gotta get the new ones pressed in, which should be tomorrow, change the diff pinion seal, and then i gotta see if this rear diff is not shagged, ( i still dont know if the clunking was caus of the wheel bearing or the diff) hopefully wheel bearing. Then i gotta swap my 32`s for a mates 31`s, hook my winch and bullbar up then she will be rockin. Not too long now, about a week i guess. When is the next vic suzi club meeting or treck?

rear bearing is same, but needs the spacer with it, as the later ones have spacer built in to the bearing, while one litres are separate, go figure...unsure if nt 1300's same..much cheaper to buy 1 litre/1.3nt bearing, if ya can get a good spacer, christover

Bearings wide or narroe track 1.3 are the same (I ahve used bit with and without spacers on mine)
To get the bearing off at home you will need a grinder, a decent cold chisel, and a decent hammer ..
I normally use a grinding disk (Vs a cutting disk) on the 4 inch grinder to grind most of the way through the bearing retainer (leave about one mm of material when grinding has ceased) and then give it a whack with the chisel should crack and be realitively easy to take off .. (but dont chick it yet if you have to do this whole process at home)
Now this is the bit where I get a bit booty fab .. I put my welding mask on (So my face is protected) and give the stuffed bearing a whack with the hammer .. normally outer race will simply shatter every where
you can now slide the brake backing plate off .. allowing you easy access to the inner race still on the axle, depending on how mucho I am feeling I will grind the race down like I did with the retainer and hit hit with the chisel .. or, or cut a groove into it (risking scoring the axle) and belt it with the hammer ..
To put the new bearings on (I noramlly do this stuff up at my brothers place so there is nowhere around with a press that I can get to carriing two axles) so I put em back on with a slide hammer made from a piece of 2 inch heavy wall box steel about 3 foot long with a huge lump of iron plug welded into the end of it )
I sit the axle in an upside down old brake drum on a lump of redgum, slip the backing plate on it and the new bearing, I put the old retainer on next (so I am not "hitting" the bearing itself) and proced to whack the crap out of it until the bearing is seated pull of fthe old retainer. .. while this is happening I have the new reatainer warming up a bit to about say 120 or so C .. then slip it onto the axle, slip on the old reatainer over top of it and belt the crapper out of it until its seated as well ..
There you go, ready to reinstall ..

Sounds like it's going to be a monster mate
I think wednesday the 10th is the next meeting, there's a trip over this weekend, and then the next is on the 14th i believe.

i do excactly as love_mud does , as long as you dont heat the retainer past 135degrees she'll be fine , good way to heat it up is in a metal tin with oil covering retainer and sit it on the stove or burner , or you could just throw it in the oven dry.
if its worth doing do it intensly , better still do it with MADPASSION
