Tyres on an 80

Post by Graham Stirling »

Hi all, this is my first post here but have been browsing for a long time.

Just picked up my first Landcruiser (80 Series) and have a wee question about tyres. Will 35's work with standard suspension and diff ratios?

no they will rub everywhere.

sometimes you can get away with a 2inch suspension lift or a 2 inch body.
as for gearing yeah it will work but expect clutch to wear a little quicker.

Cheers Sinkell.

It's getting lifted soon, only prob is that for one reason or another i have to get tyres now and suspension next month. Do 35's rub on the road or just when articulating?

I have 33s on my stock 80, and they hit the top of the wheel arch at high speed on bumpy roads, but are OK beyond that on road. It would be hopeless off road.

You might get away with it if you drive VERY carefully....

im with simkell, highly doubt it.

i would be more concerned about what width you want to run... ie 35x9-10.5 may be more likely to work that 35x12.5.

Thanks lads, have settled on 33's (285/75R16) Cooper STT's as i've got them on my discovery. That way i'll have 5 extra spares. I want to keep the gearing almost standard as i'll be towing over 3 tonnes occassionally.

I've managed to get hold of a second hand OME 2" lift, only 3 months old, so will be sticking that on at the same time as the tyres.

I'm building the car up mainly for overlanding but am planning to do the Croisiere Blanche in January so i don't want to lift it too much incase it upsets the road handling.

No, 33's and a 2 inch lift will be fine.

yep, but will scrub on flex (mainly on the chassis)

but remeber not all manufacteres sizes actually match the claimed size. some 35`s will actually only be a 34"
