Tyre Deflators
I've told my girlfriend that I want a set of tryre deflators for christmas as I can't justify spending my money on them and she wont buy me an ARB. As such - which ones should I get? The staun ones are $60 but I know that there are others.

Don't bother with them, i have never seen them work accurate yet.
Set them for 18 psi and some finish up at 20 and some 16 or so.
Also the set i saw only went down to 16psi.(to hard for some tyres)
This is just what i've seen, they were one of the first sets that i saw being used so they may have fixed that problem know.

The manufacturer claims that independant tests showed them to be accurate to 1/4 psi.

Petersens did a neat cpmparision between these toys about a year ago....The deflator v's the .45......The pistol won the race down
IMHO deflaters onlty deflate your wallet...I MUCH prefer to just pull the core....(Just carry a feew spares incase you lose one - I had one launch itself into a menai mudhole )

I have been using the new style Stauns for almost 12 months now. They have always stopped at the set pressure, although they can be a pain in the arse to set. They are great when you are in the snow or rain, just stick them on, and forget about them. By the time everyone else has finished letting down their tyres yours are finished, and you don't need to check the pressure.
i bought a set of the oasis ones many years ago, bloody useless, first you have to pump up the tyres so that they will start to let down ??? [ they need a 20 psi difference between the start and finish pressures ]
then you have to make sure all your valve stems and valve cores are the same or you get different pressures.
also they are so slow you just about have to install them before you leave home.
the kids also lost one of them.
comes in a nice leather pouch though

The new staun ones only need a couple of psi to start, and doesn't seem to matter what sort of tyre or valve stem you put them on. They are not super fast though. Takes a couple of minutes to let down all 4 from 30 to 10. Still quicker and easier than doing it manually though.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I just told my gf that I'm not all that keen on the deflators as they seem a bit of a waste of money and as such we're not exchanging gifts this christmas. Even saves me some money - bonus!
Maybe I'll consider them when I'm at the stage where I'm sick of rolling in my own money!

I run a set of RADs in my rims and they are GREAT. There is nothing you need other then a pressure gaudge. These air down heeps quicker then removing the valve and there is now chance of loosing anything.
You simply loosen the valve cover then loosen the air down section and wait about 20 MAX secs to go from 25 to about 5. You can also have the gaudge on the main valve while you are airing down.
Cost of them is $175 for 4 which also comes with spare o rings. Once you have them you`d wish you`d got them years ago.

Sounds like a good idea but it's just to tempting for one of the guys that you're wheeling with to let out all your air. But as I said - I like the idea.

No I pulled out on the idea. I got a pair of shoes instead. White skatin shoes that about 60% of people say look good, 25% don't like and the rest think they look me look g a y!
But at the moment, I'm totally redoing my rear end so I have no use for the deflators.
Thanks for asking though!

No wonder they think you look G A Y take another look at what you just wrote
Rear end on the UTE! You know, diff, springs, shocks that sort of stuff.
Funny that it takes hours for someone to reply to a post asking a favour (when I was looking for an oxy torch) but all you gotta do is put one foot outa line and POUNCE! Took you guys all of 9 mins to reply with a smart arse remark.
Like your work!
PS Worst thing was that my mother was the first to say they looked g a y.
Ane me and my rear end have come (cum?) to an agreement!
