Thinking of getting some new Headlight Inserts for the Hilux. My Spotties are almost shot and rather than get new spotties, I thought Inserts would be the go ? A while back I bought some cheap Inserts, and although they were better than the original headlights , they arnt really that flash ( no pun intended )
Anyone got any ideas / rough prices / where to get them from ?

I've tried a few well known brands over the years on both cars and 4wd's and found that the Hella H4 reflectors give the best beam. You can fit them with Halogen globes up to 90/140's or even put a set of HID's in them. I've recently fitted the HId's to mine and the difference in light output is nothing short of amazing.
The Hella inserts can be bought at parts places and the HID's from ebay the seller in Melbourne 95 soarer.

I bought some rectangular IPF H4 inserts and they are very good. I also had the cheap 'bling' reflectors, and the beam pattern was all over the place and they let water in very easily.
I think the IPFs were around $62 each from the local ARB mob.
I upgraded my loom to 6mm wire, and I was running some +60 globes. Now I've just bought some Philips +80% globes, which I will evaluate when my car gets going again.
Doing all of this at once gives you the best results... and I've always thought your lights can never be 'too' good.

I bought a set from a "mrsaveauction" off ebay. Not sure if this seller exists anymore though.
They are a universal set (fits rodeo, navara, etc). They have the clear lens and accept a standard H4 bulb. I find they work very well, although I had to adjust them when I fitted them as they were pointing to the sky. They look a whole lot better than the standard sealed beams. I think they cost me about $40 bucks from memory. (I just had a quick look on ebay and there's a few sets there. Mine didn't have the lines across the lens though).
The other alternative is to go to a wreckers and hunt around. The rodeo's and tritons have the same headlights, but are H4 as standard. Stick a bigger bulb in them and they might be a cheaper option.

Ive got Hella spotlights ( over 20 years old ) -- the lenses are fading, and the light isnt that good.
Can I get new inserts for them , or is there anyway to freshen them up ???
Yeh, same question here. Are hid conversions legal with these lenses?
A speed camera would have prevented that!
What are these lights like? Live up to their marketting or just so so. Do high wattage globes cook them?

Sorry guys, just picked up the thread again. The projector is a magnifying lense not just a piece of curved glass, so it actually magnifies the light intensity (20% is the quoted rate). We run them with 70w Hid's headlight upgrades and the light output is phenomenal. The projector lens gives the hid upgrade the cut off pattern that is typical in H4 Halogen headlights. These are the same lights as noted on the link from RoadNazi. The high watt globes don't appear to be a problem. We ran them with 90/100's for about 12 months. They are a full glass lense (including the projector) and they are a metal relector (not plastic backed.)
