fuel pump / filter setup

Post by kranked_dirt »

This is the setup I am planning on using for my motor swap (40 sereis 2F > EFI Lexus 1UZ V8). Can anyone see any problems with this? Will i need a low pressure lift pump between the tank and the filter?

not sure if the pump should go on the tank side?

i used a tank from a GU, with pump in the tank, and just used a standard soarer filter.

Mate i would do it in this order:

fuel tank>plastic low pressure fuel filter>low pressure lift pump>surge tank>high pressure EFI pump>EFI fuel filter>fuel rail.

> = direction of fuel flow

The return line from the fuel rail goes back to the surge tank and you also need an overflow line off the surge tank back to your fuel tank. I hope that makes sense!

Cheers,
Bill.

Chunks is right. EFI pumps hate pulling fuel, the only want to push it. You will need a surge tank (or a factory tank with a swimmer pump in it baffled for EFI use) if you don't want to have hassles with fuel delivery or lean outs.

Personally, I prefer the factory efi tank option as someone has already done all the engineering for you, there's the minimum of connections and fittings, and they're neat and quiet.
