engine number

is there any way i can find out what year model my patrol engine came out in? it had a replacement pt in several year before i baught it and i have just realised my numbers are different on the engine to the rego numbers.

the number is TD42 101 330 and is in a 89 model LWB patrol which im sure isnt the correct engine but is there any way to know what year it came out of so i can investigate further?

All you need to do is take it to DOT and get the number changed on your rego details. They wont ask any questions. Its a very straight forward operation that is done all the time. Your making it sound like its a huge drama

They won't ask questions till you roll through the inspection bay on 35" bias ply tyres. Then they say things like "ripper tyres! How do they go in the bush aye?", and the girl inspecting the engine number has to stand on a box . All you'll probably need is a receipt for the new engine.

the problem is i dont have the engine receipt as the RACQ report and roadie both said the same engine number on the rego so i figured it had allready been changed. that is why i am stressing a bit. the engine was changed a long time ago..... it allready has oil leaks and the bellhousing bolts are getting very stiff. i just dont want to lose my engine because of something like this, i know its common to change engines ive been through it before myself but with all the details.

Do you check your bellhousing bolts often

Just write out a receipt and take it in. They dont care where the motor came from. As long as its not stolen?

when i changed the clutch i had to check to make sure they would undo easy before i did it as i dont have a hoist. so it went back together and that is when i thought about the engine number for some reason.

ill just right myself a receipt

When i changed the engine number in my hilux i didnt even need a receipt dont worry too much about it

I just registered my FJ45 today. Its had another engine fitted since it was last regoed. They just come outside and viewed the number. Didnt ask for a recept or anything. Ive had others done in the past and its allways been the same.

all they want is the number so your vehicle can be identified in several ways (vin engine number etc)

NSW doesnt even worry about engine numbers anymore, its all VIN's.

Its worrying that the engine number was not correctly identified on your safety certificate and roadworthy. I would let the QLD transoport office know about that while your there, whoever did the inspection did not do it properly.

Beg to differ mate. All my rego papers in NSW have the engine number on them. I had to pay $50 for a blue slip inspection for adjustment of records when I changed my motor.
They look at the engine number due to pollution controls. The correct numbered motor has to be in the car for it to be legit.
