On my way to Fraser Island yesterday the Rocky decided to stop going
Nowhere was open in QLD, so I got it flat-bedded home to Newcastle... all 800kms of it
(Thank god I have the Premium NRMA cover hey)
First quote for the tow was $4000... the one I got ended up being $1900, which is covered by NRMA, along with my nights accomodation in Brisbane.
Anyway, it's home now and after looking at it the bolt that holds the crank pulley on seems to have snapped/sheared off.
Do you guys have any info on this bolt, or anything to add in relation to the keyway on the crank, so I can assess the damage and buy a new bolt or other parts if needed.
ANY help is appreciated.
Cheers, Nick.

I pulled the crank pulley off today and found that the keyway on the crankshaft is in good nick!
I will need a new crank pulley however, as the centre is a little flogged out and doesn't fit nice and tight onto the crankshaft anymore.
The key was disintegrated and no remnants could be found, only dust of what was.
Anyways, it's looking better than first expected for the old Rock.
I just need some one to extract the snapped crank bolt, find a replacement pulley/key and go from there.

Drill a hole down the centre then use an EASY-OUT.
Theres a mob that does it cant think of the name.
My mate had a broken manifold bolt they came to his place cost about $70.
Yeah, cheers mate, I rang Central Coast Thread Repairs earlier, but he is on holidays for a bit. My mate wants to do it, but if he stuffs up there goes my crankshaft, which would be major dramas.
I think I'll let a pro do it.
I've got some pics and I'll upload as soon as Putfile wants to work.

Any pics mate?
Clint,
Limited Edition 95 Roza & 2006 ST Patrol Coil Cab Ute.... both a work in progress.
cold chisel has been tried on the bolt but no such luck
Stu, maybe he can use the whitworth socket if we go on a road trip back to brissy, find the bolt head on the highway and weld it to the remaining piece of snapped bolt in the crank

Today, we removed the timing belt casing, and found they key sitting underneath the crank pulley. Is this an indication of the key being dislodged when the pulley was installed, or it has fallen into here when the pulley became loose.
The timing belt also has damage on it in places (only 9000km old ) and there is metal filings and dust throughout the timing case, as though something has been wearing in there for a time.
I've got pics of it all, which i'll upload asap.

The metal dust is possibly from the pully slopping around on the shaft if that key was disloged.
Drilling the bolt out might be a bit difficult if its hardened?? Not sure if it is. It does have to be done up damn tight tho'.
I would suggest that you dont go skimping/re-using any important parts because if the timing belt lets go...... Chuck the keys on the seat and walk away from it
Last time i did the timing belt on mine i pulled the cover after 5,000ks just to make sure everything was ok. Cheap peace of mind I reckon.
Good luck with it all. Hope you get'er back on the road. Lord knows how few there are still kicking around these days.
Cheers
If it doesn't have two sticks, I don't wana know about it!
