axel seal on 80
my right hand front axel seal has gorn again.
i did it 2 months ago just before i went on a big trip to tazzy, and it went straight after so i did it again, and put a new swizel hub housing on it, and it went about 2 weeks later, i thought it might have been coss i used a 75 series axel seal i got off my bro, so i changed it to an 80 series one and it went 3 days ago, has any one got any ideas on why it would go so many times, am i doing somthing wrong or is it just bad luck
i hurd some were that i might be using the wrong shims so its sitting to high or low so it is moving the axel, should i put the original shims back in instead of using the ones that came with the new (second had) swivel housing
and thought would be good.

Our old 80 did the same thing. The mechanic fixed it once, 5k later there is oil spraying around the front wheel, he fixed it again. a month later it started weaping and eventually started pouring oil all over the wheel and comming out of the swivel joint.
The old fella at this stage was shitty so decided to fix it himself, when we pulled it down where the seal runs on the spindle, it was all worn. So we fitted new spindles, axel seals, swivel hub seals, wheel bearings and swivel bearings while it was all pulled down. It never leaked again.
Good luck, nothing worse then a problem that keeps comming back!

The Toyota seal is better than aftermarket, however, they shouldnt leak like that, do u have problems getting the c/v back in? is there a wear grove on the axle?? you may have a bent diff housing, stand right away on a flat road and size up the angle of each front wheel...if the right wheel is on a slight angle in at the top, you have a bent housing causing the leak or a blocked breather cap on the diff, or real bad swivel setup like you states earlier...are all the bottom bolts tight??? sometimes they all come loose....

I suggest always using the same shims to maintain the alignment of the housing (my suggestion, I am not a mechanic).
The other thing I have found is to ensure the that inner axle oil seal it seated in as far as possible not just level with the inner facing of the diff housing. You will notice that the where the seal runs of the axle it narrows closer to the CV. If the seal is not tapped all the way in with the float of the axle the seal can align over this narrow section and let the oil past.
This has taken me a long time to learn, hopefully this helps.

80 series axle leak
My suggestion, also check for wear on the brass bush or bearing in the back of the spindal this will cause the cv & axle to move around and may cause the seal to wear prematurely.
