3" Exhaust but what Muffler?

Hi guys,

I'm running a DTS kit on my TD42 Coilcab and am in the process of fitting a 3" Mandrel Bent System soon from the existing 3" dump pipe back, what I want to know is what muffler should I fit to the system, keep the supplied one in the kit or scrap it for a hotdog type?

Depends if you want leagle or not, the DTS system uses a straight through muffler and is "just" leagle. No muffler won't meet noise emissions, if that bothers you or not??

I'm not too worried about the legality of it all but I don't want to listen to a constant drone on the highway as I travel between WA to QLD at least once a year. A little noise won't be an issue as it will improbably offset the noise from the new tyres going on.

my GQ had no muffler, and straight thru system with Denco turbo, droning was not an issue.

Try it with the stock system with the supplied gear, see what you think...

I'm a boilermaker/pipefitter by trade do you reckon I should knock one up myself using madrel bends and lenghs of exhaust pipe. Does it need to be any specific Length?

I have a muffler on Mav Wagon with a DTS turbo. Originally had just straight through 3" with no mufflers but it was way too loud and had a loud drone at part throttle, under load. I think most of the drone was from the exhaust noise echoing around the back of the cabin, so may be OK on a ute.

Try it without a muffler and see what you think, you can always fit a muffler later on.
