Built a tray and wondering wat the requirements are for tail lights as in how far from the side of the 4x4 and how close and stuff like that to get roadworthy

Must be within 400mm of the outside of the vehicle not including mirrors etc. Does not state the whole light just says within 400mm therefore as long as some part that actually lights up not just the edge of the light is within 400mm you should be right.

Mind you on a Vit if both were 400mm from the outside they'd almost be touching

Bear in mind that the measurement of 400mm is to the outer edge of the innermost light (not including reverse, so if you have a light that has the indicator on the outside edge and stop tail further in you must measure from the edge of the stop tail.
I think there is a minimum spacing that they can apart of 600mm too.

Yeah thats all right, Within 400 from the edge and at least 600 apart. No higher than 1200 .. or was it 1300??
I got defected for not complpying with these rules 2 months ago.
