not wanting to waste money on an air locker at the moment only to change the drive-line later this year(if finances permit)
I was wanting to purchase a traction aid for my front Diff,
I am loving the rear locker atm, but just wanted something in the front to climb more tricky - technical stuff, rocks boulders, you know.
which would people recomend?
My zook is mainly just a mud pig atm but wanting more technical driving in the future!
not sure if the LSD is going to suit the terrain I'm talking about but it might help
Any experience in LSD or Locked fronts (NOT welded fronts) would be apreciated.
not saying that I will be buying from any specific places as yet, pics and links are just for reference for now!

If it's just temporary, the lock right will be OK, bear in mind though they will increase the load on the CV's though and there is some variation in the way they can be set up - some are tighter than others

the lsd is listed as a front or rear but is the same part number for both, so unless you have or are prepared to buy double tough style axles, there is only a decision between lockright or air locker ( unless somebody else makes a true front lsd)

danso:
i just put a lock rite in the front of mine with a welded rear and its great. being new its still tight, same as a welded front, but driving in 2wd makes it like open. im sure it will wear and loosen up a bit. i drove cityview all day today in 4wd and it was fine
your more than welcom to take my car for a drive with the lockrite to see if u want to go that way. it mite or mite not convince u to go air straight up.
im happy with it
My advise if you want to avoid air lockers is put a lockright in the front and weld the rear. I am currently running a lockright in the front of my 91WT and I find it great.
If your zook is post 1988.5 you will need to obtain a 4 pinion front carrier, as they went to a 2 pinion front after that. Lockrights DO NOT fit into a 2 pinion carrier. A rear 4 pinion carrier can be substituted (if you get a rear one you will need to put FRONT sidegears into it, as front and rear axles are different...)
You do not need new axles for the lockright.
I got my lockright from Rocky Road Outfitters USA and found them to be great to deal with AND the cheapest (well under $300AUD to my door)
Cheers,
Pez

my zook is 88 W/T 3.9 centers, I'm prety sure its 4 pinion but not sure?
its not that I'm trying to avoid air lockers just the price of them,
I have a mini spool in the rear at the moment and love it off road,
sometimes its anoying when pulling into shoping centers or servo's, only because of the noise but sometimes its cool
RRO for under $300... sounds good chears

If its a WT then it'd have 3.7 centres and only the 2-pinion front, unless there was some crossover when they went WT mid 88 and they still kept 3.9 centres??
98 WT LWB Maruti, 1.6efi, rockhoppers, 2" body lift, 2" springs, 32" BFG muddies, jimny Power Steer, front lockrite :-)

I believe this can be the case. If the WT it came out of had plastic flares, it may also have a 4 pinion front diff, even though it would have 3.7 gears.

yes they did release the 3.9 centres in the 88 w/t
same bolt holes as the N/t
different bolt holes for the 3.7 w/t
8mm holes in mine but the 3.7 w/t have 10mm holes ,,,
I'm pretty sure,

Nah not really. A LSD just limits the amount of differential action between the wheels, where as a locker eliminates it. An LSD can still have you stuck, because not enough drive is going to the wheel you want it to be at. A locker delivers 100% drive to both wheels. Some LSD's are beter than others, and you can shim them up pretty tight, but they are still not a locker.
