Broken window regulator

Post by GRPABT1 »

I just went wheeling and when I got home I wound my window up but something broke and the handle fre spins with the window not moving now. It 90% of the way up atm. I pulled the door trim off and had a look and from what I can see the spline that the handle connects to must have a gear that turns the big toothed arm. Problem is I think the spline is free spinning and turning nothing.

Now is there a fix for this or am I up for a new window, window regulator or whole door? If I find one in a wreckers does all the window gear come out easy enough?

I watched the wrecker take it out of the door. That was all i needd to know to put it back in mine.

Of course it turns out that the regulator wasn't the actual problem.....

What was the problem with yours? Similar to mine? My wrecker gives me discounts for removing it myself :D

The metal channel inside the door that the window is supposed to be guided by has broken free of the door and is now hanging off the rubber/felt lining, rattling and tapping annoyingly. I have to get in there and rip it out as there is no way it can be re-welded in there. I just have to lift the front of the window up a bit when i wind it up, and live with it.

This had made the window harder to close, and i was trying to force it via the winder, which had shredded all the little teeth off te plastic winder.

the new reg. does work a little easier with that said.
