I believe the series one doesnt have an o2 sensor mine doesnt 97 model. They only come with an 02 sensor in the series 2 which for memory is in late 99 models and upwards. Its also around the same time they changed the cam belt to be changed from 100 thou to 150 thou on the series 2. Hence why I also dont run the dearer fuel as there is no 02 to detect the higher octane fuel just throwing $$$ out the exhaust pipe. Im getting around the 15/17L per 100 around town, 12.2 freeway, 12.8 towing camper loaded on sealed roads. Up around the 20 mark on Stockton beach locked in 2nd gear (auto) 4HL. Regards Steve M

I was getting about 16-17L/100km around town in the 3.4L V6 (auto, 2000 model, 145,000km), and I had the impression that was about normal.

Now I'm running gas, and it seems like it has gone from 20L/100km to around 22L/100km, so I'll see if I can tweak a bit more economy into mine as well!

Hi there Carrot, they say on average the vehicle will use approx 20% more using LPG Thats why I didnt get it put on also losing the 90L main tank would reduce my touring range. Also they reckon the gas will be up over $1 next year, bastards cant win eh. Hope Ive posted this in the right spot first time reply.Regards

Yeah, I knew consumption would go up a lot. I was quite happy with the 20L/100km, but it seems to be climbing. I just filled up today, and calculated I did about 23.6L/100km on the last tank... so I'd like to try getting it back down to 20L/100km on gas. It's still a lot cheaper to run on gas than on petrol! But you're right, the biggest drawback is the lack of range!

I have a Series 2 (late 99) and it has no O2 Sensor or Cat Convertor for that matter.

 Rock_monkey has just made an improvement to his prado. He PM'd saying that he took his to Maitland Toyota who said it sounds like the AFM. He had previously cleaned it in the exact way that I have done to mine and still had the same symptoms(lacking power and less than average fuel economy). They swapped an AFM from a prado on the lot into his and the power returned to normal so then they "soaked" his AFM for an hour and refitted it. Apparently the power has improved considerably so one would imagine the fuel consumption should be back to a reasonable amount and I'm sure he will report back with that when he runs a tank.

Can you please elaborate if I have the above wrong

And secondly, it was suggested that petrol may have been used to soak the AFM.

Would petrol be a suitable thing to soak it in? I'm not too confident with the plastic and electrics etc :?

I'm not doubting rock_monkey in any way, he's a champ for passing info on although I'm not real keen to soak it in petrol
