what to do?

Post by lukeash »

well i know this subject has been spoken about before but i have looked at every thread on it and i believe my situation is a bit different. i am in the market for a GU as i had my GQ stolen a couple of years ago. now my bro inlaw works for a major car auction company and can pick me up A 04DX 3.0 with a bull bar and winch with about 90 100k on the clock for about $24000. i think it is ex government, i want to set up as a tourer but also make it pretty capable in some rougher stuff.now i intend to keep the patrol for a long time. so do i go for the DX or look around and pick up a 4.2 with higher kms. like i said i want to keep this next 4b for along time. please any comments, opinions, experiences. like i said i know this topic has been spoken about before and i have searched but please let me know what you would do? i have about 35000 to spend.

I was in the same boat for the last 6 months and just bit the bullet.
Picked up a GU 4.2 wagon 1999, it,s immaculate, best thing I've ever done, with safari turbo and intercooler fitted at 40,000kms, now done 137,000.
It has quite a few extras, 2" lift, dual bat, alarm, tint, arb winch bar etc, some more small add ons.
$32,000, so your money is ok but tust me, neat ones are hard to find.
HJ75 Ute, 2"spring, 2"skackle, 2"Body, 35" simex Et's, uhf, warn 8000, rear locker so far.
99 GU with some stuff.

for touring would you be happy with the lack of comfort levels of a DX? Some are some arent.

Save ya pennies for the 4.2, but as stated, GOOD CLEAN ones are hard to find, and pull big bux now.

yeah i have just found an 00 ST with 80k on it. they are asking 42000 but said they can do it for $38,000. now i can afford that but would rather get a cheaper on so i have more money to spend on turning it into a capable tourer. i hate having the decision to make

Simple question to ask your self, If a cheaper higher km one has a problem can you fix it your self ?

NO = buy the 00ST it has less KM

YES = buy the cheaper on and build it your self.

You dont want to be tight and find out in months you need to drop 10K to keep it going.
