td42 pump mods

Post by Den81 »

Hi guys, my injector pump is due for a rebuild and i was wondering what mods would have to be done for more power? Its currently opened right up and putting 89kws at the rears so could i expect 100kws with a modded pump? Running 12psi with top mount intercooler. Just want to weigh up the cost of the extra mods to the pump.

Cheers Den

A pump is about 3k depending on who does it. If the turbo, exhaust and intake are up to it 150 rwkw is capable.

Thanks Joel, so would that be the pump rebuilt with larger plunger? Its done a little over 300kms.

Den,

there are different stages of pump mods to be done depending on what power you want to make.

Determine that, then the pump mods follow, then the turbo then exhaust and inlet mods follow as well.

A 11mm head and rotor in an injection pump is good for 120rwkw. There is more than just fitting the head and rotor to get this, its not that easy.

A 12mm head and rotor will give enough fuel to suit 150-180rwkw.

are the injectors then matched to this added displacement?

Thanks Andy, i would like at least 100kws with 35s, so looks like the 11mm plunger would be the go. At least if i want more power later on i can upgrade the turbo. I allready have a 3'' mandrel exhaust.

We reset opening pressures to suit. Its only very high powered engines that we change injectors, as they brake springs inside them.

What happens if you already have the turbo on the car ?

I assume just match the fuel to suit the turbo ?

Yes we do, and thats why we use a chassis dyno to do it with. It is to do with matching fuel delivery to air delivery and every turbo is different in it air delivery.

if you have a turbo that has the specs somewhere can you just match it to that ?

obviously chassis dyno would be better but is this enough ?

Any turbo specs around that are supplied are only air flow quantities against pressure figures. This does not help in real life when setting a pump as there are a lot of variables, it certainly helps in matching a turbo for a certain application.

The only accurate way we have found is our dyno. Pumps can be set to standard figures on a test bench, but that doesnt work if mods are done.
