I have got the whole of Australia on Raster Topographic. There are four maps that come with it on two DVDs. The best I find is the 250k Mosaic which is a topo of the whole of Australia. They come as ECW files though and you have to convert them to run in Ozi explorer and there is instructions on there website on how to convert the maps.

Apologies for my ignorance but I take it Win CE4.2 is an operating system for a Microsoft PDA? I have a blackberry so don't know about these things!

I normally just take my laptop and put it in the seatbelt on my passenger seat! They run through Oziexplorer as a moving map with a USB GPS. I have been away with people that have used this set up of oziexplorer with Raster maps on a Microsoft PDA.

The version I have is Natmap Raster Premium and they are basically digital copies of Geoscience NATMAPs for the whole of Australia. There is more information about them at http://www.ga.gov.au/nmd/products/maps/raster250k/

I have only installed 250k Mosaic which takes up 3 gig. No idea how much they cost as the 4wd club I am in purchased them with a club license which was handy. They are supposed to be available at any decent Mapshop. In Melbourne you can get them at the place on Waverley Road in Chadstone. I am not the greatest user of Oziexplorer and I am sure there is a lot more it can do that I am not aware of, would love to do a session in it or learn more about it somehow.

I find raster great in the Vic High Country, however a little inaccurate in the deserts. Hema Great Desert Maps are the best for central Australia.

I was thinking that if I wanted to run country mapping then I would get another SD card with the maps embedded . Two cards for two applications.

The actual map file is basically just an image file of the country at 250k. I am not sure whether or not it would work with Route 66. According to the Geoscience website, it works with Oziexplorer and also Trackranger and other GPS software so it may work. Best thing to do would be ask a retailer where they flog it I guess.

RN, you would need to run OZI CE to use the topo maps, or find offroad type maps that work with route66 which are most likely from sensis. I would try putting ozi ce onto an sd card and see if your dvd/gps will run it, dl the ozi trial off the ozi site and maybe even email them and ask about running off an SD card.

I run CE 4.1 on an incar unit, 250k rasters are my standard base maps...

size wise, the brisbane area is two files, 3Mb for the fx3 and 4k for the .map

runs fast enough at that scale and only accuracy issues i have relate to the age of the map.

Many maps available as raster scans on CD, just be careful of what co-ordinate system they were drawn in when you calibrate them.
