If you have no carpet, then get used to it!

Can't think of anything else, except the G series box is a weak POS.

Have you given the vehicle a MAJOR service?

If you're mechanically minded it would be worth your while to do engine/gearbox/transfer/both diffs. This way you'll have a good chance to see what everything is like and familiarize yourself with the vehicle for the time you break it in the bush.

More to your point it will show if there's an unusually hiogh amount of metal shavings in your transmission fluid.

This always surprises me and lots of people say it.

I had a mate with a hilux on 35" Muds with a 300+HP 308 and a G52. This thing could smoke both wheels no brake 1st 2nd and 3rd. And regularly. Never broke a box.

I also had a 3.9EFI Discovery motor in front of a G52 and Dual transfer Cases in a Hilux. Running 38" TSLs twin ARB lockers and Longfield CVs. Constantly drove it like it was stolen. Never had a G52 failure.

What they can not handle is lugging in 5th gear. But there are not many boxes that will cope with this.

If your box is noisy in 5th gear its possible its been carrying heavy weight and been driven around in 5th gear when it should have been in 4th. But check all your oils in the Diffs, Transfer and Gearbox first and see if they have any metal in them. Its not uncommon to find some metal flakes stuck to the drain plugs but chunks in the oil signify some sort of problem.
