Jimny question

Post by foodie »

Hi guys,

I have had a few 4wd's and am looking to get something that is ecconomical and capable.

I have nfi on zooks but they look to be the goods!

Just wondering if the Jimny 1.3 would be able to tow a box trailer, 2 adults and 2 kids on sand?

Am I expecting too much?

85% of the time it will be my daily driver to the train/bus/work
5% wheeling
10% camping with family

What are they like to get around town in? Oversized charade?

jimny is a comfortable suzi with 2 ppl plus camping for something with live axles but goes great on sand but with a box trailer on sand will not be to good maybe a roofpod instead. 4 door vitara is what I'd say you should look 4 it will toe much better and more room.
saying that I have a mate who when he was young, mum and dad him and his brother used to camp in a softtop sierra! they traveled to frazer island from wollongong in it! the 4 of them! his mum would rather travel with the roof off and keep an unbrella in the car. bit of a hippy, but each to there own.
own a jimny for 7 years and still love leaving camping on a 35 degree day to escape the noises of nature turn on the A/C and feel I've had a nice weekend out of the heat.
But i don't have 2 kids
4 door vitara is my bet.

Cheers for that insight mate.

I think I should take 3 of my fat mates with me when I test drive one.

Got a 60 cruiser now, great machine, shithouse in traffic :(

Had a 55 and a 89 hilux on gas (dualcab), the hilux was good. I want something inbetween a hilux and vitara/jimny

went camping in my jim last june, myself and two kids, the wife stayed home. we pulled a 7'x4' box trailer, 9 hrs north of us. went fine, veerrry slow accelleration, forget overtaking, but sat on 100 with some ease. got there and home again without any inconvienience.

however, the sand we went on made the trailer into a huge anchor, we didn't get more than 10' into the sand, before coming to a halt, unhitched, and the jim took off like a cut cat on the sand, nothing stopping it (except the trailer).

mind you, the trailer had bias ply cheese cutter tyres, and we didn't lower the pressures in either the trailer or car.the wife and the kids are coming this june, to the same destination. we looked at a camp trailer today, to hire for a week $300. it's still a 7'x4', but they said it weighed 300 kg's, which is alot lighter than my trailer, with similar gear in it.

cheers, will.

V6 LWB Auto Vitara if the $$ are right.

Few things to watch for but the bible will tell all. "CJ" ( OL Member ) is another source of info on all things Vit.
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.
