Long time no post... but I'm back
Anyway heres the project:
Helping a mate build a dedicated trail toy from an old FJ40
Its running the 3B engine and we wanted to add some lower gearing and managed to secure, new, hilux 23 spline dual adapter + 23 spline 4.7 gears for under $1000. Hes got 5.29 cruiser diffs so 220:1 looks sweet !!
We have sorted the length issue by extending the wheelbase with a 4link rear end and will shift the donk a bit further forward.
The bit we are now sorting is using a lux gearbox on the end of the 3B.
So the big kahuna is....... Marks quote the Dyna gearbox as having the same bolt pattern as the R151, I suspect they mean the bellhousing ?
But later on they mention bellhousing adapters... confusing !!
Has anyone put the R151 on a 3B or similar with the Dyna bellhousing.
I happen to a Dyna in the drive and the motor is a 14B, which I assume is the same block dimensions as the 3B. The bellhousing measures the same length as the R151.. could it all be too easy ??
I already have an adapter for putting the lux gear xfer on the R151.
Any info appreciated

Hey mate,
Great to see you back!!
go to a few wreckers and take some measurments.
I reckon something will exist that does it
Keep in mind the bellhousing, is just a big assed spacer... run some maths and you might be able to bolt a 10mm alloy plate, or 6mm steel? to the rear of the 3B block and have it drilled and cut to accept the R151 gearbox.
remember this will then put your gearbox back 10mm, or you could like use the mild steel and shave a few mm off each end of the bellhousing.
The Dyna one may go very close, but the 14B block is fairly different from 3B

I've got an R151 Box with a BU85 Dyna bellhousing on it. You need to grind away a bit of the bellhousing (near the throw out lug thing), but otherwise a bolt on job.
Bought the bellhousing from a truck wrecker who said the bellhousing will fit a B engine which we intend on buying. Just note we intend on fitting a 14B or 15B to this Hilux, so I dont know for sure if it will fit the earlier B blocks? 14B and 15B are same block, all earlier have some differences, but not sure on specifics.
I dont have a clue about what has to be done for the clutch yet...
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.
Cheers BJ, Nice to be back. Shld update my toy in the members sectionbj on roids wrote:Hey mate,

Good idea, a session at the wreckers - I'll take my R151 with me and see what fits !!
Thats what I like to hear.... someone has actually done itHighway-Star wrote:I've got an R151 Box with a BU85 Dyna bellhousing on it. You need to grind away a bit of the bellhousing (near the throw out lug thing), but otherwise a bolt on job.
Interesting addition to the discussion is when we went away for a session at Xmas, one of the Cruiser boys had starter motor issues so we stole the Dyna one and it bolted straight into his 3B cruiser, same starter motor as far as we could tell.... the 14B and 3B blocks must be very close !!
