what transfercase to use in a sierra

Hi all, i'm new to this and my sierra. i have a 88 w/t sierra that i want to put some hilux diffs in to. the sierra diff are already sprung over but i'm worryied about stuffing them out bush as the car is turbod and will be taken where i couldn't take my work hilux my question is what transfer case should i use to line up with the rear diff, a sierra( and have the drive shaft on a angle) a vitara9 but do'nt know how strong it is or will fit) or does any 1 have any other ideas? and what should i do about the steering? the car is going to be driven on the road.

in short use a bundera rear diff, sierra transfer and highsteer front knuckle.

why do you want to put lux diffs in? (plenty of threads on this also)

i have had a look but didn't see anything about the Bundera diff so thats why i was asking about the transfer case and hilux diff .what do i need to do to put the bundera diff in?

i want to put lux diffs in cause i have 1 and the front mounts on mine are a pretty close match, better raito to run bigger wheels as i have some 33x12.5 on the zook, bigger brakes and i can get parts anywhere for them. they are also rated for the car to carry just over a ton so they have to be pretty strong

bundera is what you just described aswell

a bundera diff will take similar work to the hilux. they are basically the same diff, but the bundera is offset the same as a zook,
the bundera is coil, so you can either do a coil conversion if you get the other bits at the same time. or just cut all the brackets off and weld some perches onto the diff.
and you can use your zook xfer without funky driveline angles
it still give you the same strength and diff ratios as you can use hilux centres

you will have to reweld perches onto the hilux diff anyway.

Keep the standard zook transfer, fit some gears with around 18% drop in high and whatever they offer in low. Use the Bundera diffs with standard ratio's (4.1 from memory). That will keep your road revs okay with the 33's and give you a nice crawl in low.

So the bundera rear is the go but is the track the same as the hilux.

Should i just get the bundera front as well? then the ratio's will be the same as a hilux has 4.3

desial hilux is 4.5:1 petrol is 4.8:1 and some real earls petrols luxs were 5.12:1 but had a shit little pinion shaft

I'm fairly sure Bundera fronts are a slightly weaker High pinion arrangement, whether this is good or bad depends on what you want. I don't know if you can fit Hilux c&p to the bundera front because of this, though maybe 80 series front might, because I think they are high pinion Toyota 8".

The selection of ratios for Hilux axles are their most endearing feature. I belive what bigzook1 said is not quite right.
This is what I thought was the case:
Diesels: LN46, 4.8
LN65, 4.5
LN106, 4.3
After this IFS.
Petrol: RN25, 4.88
YN65, 4.3
RN105, 4.1 or 4.3 ???
Again IFS after this.
Bundera: ? some had 4.8s factory though.
You can get plenty of other ratios, ranging from about 3.5 down to 5.9 or something silly like that.

3.9 is rare, I wanted some for my fathers Hilux buildup but the only set I came accross were not worth the $ (like $1000 pair), so we have compromised a bit and gone for 4.1s (very common).

Most Toyotas with an 8" diff, thats were. I believe the following list is it:
Hilux (live axled front and rear)
Hilux IFS rear
2wd Hilux rear
Hiace Rear
Bundera (as previous post not sure on front?)
Probably some cars too, but not sure...

Also there are a couple of companies who sell them, there is even an aussie one! I found a place in Brissy that retails the R&Ps once, but I cannot remember their name. Just google it for a while and see what you can come up with. Common ratios are cheaper etc.

I think early boxy style supras also run hilux diffs. Not sure of the ratio.
