power/economy using a donaldsone precleaner V's Snorkel

Post by pongo »

Just curious to know if anyone has known of any power/economy loss using a precleaner bowl all the time instead of a snorkel.

My plan is to upspec to a 3inch donaldson aircleaner and use a 3inch precleaner as well on my old Mk 3.3litre TD patrol

Probably makes no difference but im just curious thats all

Cheers

Ran an 8" donaldson on a 2.8 NA diesel hilux and there was a small drop in performance and fuel economy over the ram.

Tried it on a "healthy" turbo diesel 2.8 and it really killed the performance.

I like them though, I'll be running one on my Zook again shortly.

just watch it with some of the pre-cleaner filters. i think it was on of the surf guys who had a pre-filter (snorkel sock) which caused so much vaccum in the pre turbo intake it sucked oil past the turbo seals.

might be a better idea just to face snorkel is another direction.

Does anyone here run a restriction gauge on their airfilter?
It shows (holds until reset) the maximum vacuum at your filter.

It would make questions like this so easy. I.e. Stock was xx vacuum, with open snorkle is xx vacuum, with precleaner is xxx vacuum.

My Gwagen had one. I removed it as it was a good spot to run the breathers into, but it was very cool.
