O.K, after spending some time looking for a decent 4wd ive found a 90 model petrol 80series gxl.
It is in awsome condition, it has 266***ks on the clock. Had the head removed in 05 and had the valves hardened for lpg. It has a solid axle front with all time 4wd. The gearbox, transfer case and diffs are dead quiet and have absolutely no free play.
it is the 4.2l, im presuming 3f. My question is how reliable are these things? Are these ks reasonably low for what it is and should I be able to expect many more years out of the engine?
The only fault I could find was it had a slight lifter noise but it never got worse when driving at high revs or under load.
Any common faults or problems I should look out for?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I would like to get the rig this week if all is good. Also the price is $10500 ono Depending on what it needs for a roadie (hardly a thing by the looks of it) I was thinking of throwing an offer $9500. Would that be a good price for what it is?

Jabber gone. Now have 98 nissan terrano and a 94 4.2ldiesel rv troopy on 33s slowly getting the fancy bits. How the hell do I change my user name?
While the old 3f was always the subject of criticism, they were reliable and trustworthy rides...however....they dont go very well for the amount of fuel they use....you can buy heaps better cruisers with the 4.5 for not much more...there is one 3f 80 on ebay for 4500 dollars, and thats about market, because 97's are being passed in for 15 with turbos, and you can buy 93-96 anywhere for 8 to low 12's

im not sure on the petrol to be honest, but from what i have read on here and knowing a few people they are a tough engine and with regular servicing can last as long as a diesel. if it is as smick as you say then it is a good price, most petrols can be had from as little as $6000 to usually around the average of your price of $9500 for a good example. the diesel vs petrol as in cost is nothing to worry about these days. diesel costs more but you will get more k's out of a tank, petrol costs far less than diesel but less k's to a tank, they both equal themselves out these days in my opinion.
