Dual transfer case shifters?
Since blowing my crawler gears up and deciding to move to Brisbane (somebody buy my house grrr) I decided that the quickest cheepest thing for me to do with the hilux is just drop twin cases in it which will keep me happy for another 5 or so years till I do the auto etc.
So now thanks to Locktup I have a Trial Gear adapter sitting here in my shed waiting to go under the hilux. I have everything I need other then the adjusted tail shaft lengths.
I am also just waiting for my back to be 100% again before I go lifting t cases out and back in again. I hert it real bad just before xmas and its only just starting to come good now, first day back at work will be Tuesday
Anyway what I want to know is,
Has anybody that runs dual cases done anything with the shifters so that they BOTH come up threw the SAME hole? I don`t want to cut another hole in my floor and I also want to put in a centre console from a SR5, if there was another shifter coming threw the floor then I can`t have the console.
A couple of ways I have thought of doing this are.
Get a twin stick shifter for the rear case. By using a twin stick shifter for the rear case it eliminates the side to side movement of the stick while in High 4WD, this makes it a bucket load easier as for 2wd or 4wd its only forward or back movement. Same goes for high or low its only forwards or backwards movement.
Then cut both sticks off so they stay under the floor, also cut the front stick off under the floor and then just put a small air ram on each shifter and just use air to shift.
Or weld some flat to each shifter where they are cut off under the floor and then rig up a lever setup so the yall come up threw the same origanal floor hole. But then there is the thing of sealing around 3 sticks with some sort of rubber boot.
What other ways can you think of and what way do you think would be CHEEPEST.

should I have a look again at pneumatic shifters for the hilux box I entertained the idea years ago put it in the to hard basket and cut the hole!
the 2wd and 4wd side is easy as pneumatics is concerned but the high low and neutral make for a harder problem.
even running a cable morse?? into the shift rods was an idea at that stage.
there would have to be somthing out there by now??
give me a call.

You'd be able to run a cable shift wouldn't you?
With your 2" body lift you'd have anough room to run stubby sticks under the floor to give you some leverage. Should be cheaper than air shift as you'd no doubt be able to adapt something from the wreckers.
Or just cut the hole, you'll be painting stuff inside when you do the auto anyway after mounting the new pedal box etc.
Well I'm guessing that they didn't think everyone would carry on like a big bunch of sooky girls over it like they have........
Well I don't know what drugs you were on but doing this did not work.RUFF wrote:Your second stick will come out through the SR5 Coin tray. I still ran the full console in my dual cab. You just need to put the stick in backwards for this to fit perfect.
I ended up putting it in the normal way round and just rebent the shifter in my vise. I'm glade my gearbox etc is moved forward 35mm as it would have been a real pain in the arse if it wasn't. With the shifter re bent it now misses the front of the console lid by about 10mm while in 4x4 High. I'll post some pics up tomorrow night.
